Question Has anyone....

ever owned a degu?

At my vet clinic there's two needing homes for free, and though I'd like to take them I can't. However, if anyone's ever owned one I'd like to hear about it!

We used to own degus. They are pretty cool critters. They look like a big gerbil but they are really friendly. Ours had babies a few times, the first time was a big surprise since we thought we had 2 females. I found a very informative site on them I will try to find again if you are interested. One thing I will say is, they need to be in pairs. Most places I see do sell them in pairs but I have seen them being sold in Meijers alone. Just like birds, one needs to do their research before getting them. The care is similar to hamster and gerbil care but their is a few extra things that you need to know. My son had them for about a year and typical as all kids, he got tired of cleaning the cage. Thats why we don't have them anymore but they are great fun to watch and while they do get up at night, they are not nocturnal so you can play with them and watch them during the day.

Love Bird B is on a distinguished road
Jenny,

Did they ever find a home for the degus? I would have loved them if I didn't have my luvie Perky to keep me busy.

Thanks 'too Crazy! Yes, they are pretty cool little guys! I'm assuming they got a home, since last time I went they weren't there. I forgot to ask about them though! Thankfully the two were in pairs which was good, though I can't say much good about the cage they were in.
