abdominal mass found in our dog

Our vet told us that our dog had an abdominal mass and at his age (8) surgery wouldn't do any good. Has anybody had a dog with this and gone through surgery and lived longer?

I haven't had this happen, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am, that you are going through this. It is so hard to have a sick pet.

Really depends on how big the mass is and where it is located. What kind of dog do you have.

I'm really sorry you have to go through this. You may want to get a second opinion.

We do mass removals all the time at our clinic. Most make it thru the surgery ok it just depends on the dog where the mass is how big it was.

We remove masses on dogs way older than 8 all the time. What kind of mass?

No advice just wanted to wish you luck - if it were me I'd get a second (or even third) opinion, based on what others have said here and my own tendency to be stubborn.

I agree with everyone - get a second opinion, what kind of mass?

how was it discovered, xray or sonogram?

years ago i had a chow/lab mix that was diagnosed with a mass / got a second opinion (sonogram), and ended up it was fluid on his lungs (Congested Heart failure) - and was treated for years with lasix.

good luck,,,
