Yeah, there's different types of african greys. The ones in the adorable pictures are congo african greys though some breeders call them camaroons or other names, and the other kind are the timneh african greys which are slightly smaller, have more maroonish-colored tails, and have a horn-colored upper beak.

They are really cute, they look more like cockatoos without their grey feathers.

Pepper what a cute avatar I love it. I read that most congo greys learn there first word at 11 months and some timnehs learn there first word before they are weand. but don't take my word for it I have never even herd a grey talk

How old is Pepper? Courtney's right, though some greys start talking alot sooner, and some alot later, and some never.

Is there some way to help a bird learn how to talk?

I have seen recorded speech training tapes or cd's, although I haven't used any, maybe someone here can give testimony.

I think the best way to help a bird learn to talk is by talking to it clearly and often. Just imagine going to Mexico or somewhere and having no one talk to you! It'd be pretty hard to learn Spanish then! I doubt that the cd's and stuff would work all that well because I'd think that the bird would just tune it out after awhile, though for some birds it might help reinforce sounds. If you want your bird to speak knowing what it's saying though, then those woudlnt' be a good idea since it's all completely out of context. !
