Red face Unsure of this Turtle

Hey, I hope there's some people who know a lot about turtles on here, or at least could identify one.

My mom, sister and I were going shopping this morning, and on the side of the road, my mom saw something so she turned the car around and went back. She got out of the car, bent down and came back with a turtle! Go figure I don't know what kind it is, or what they're supposed to eat.

He has a dark brown, nearly black shell, and red stripes on his otherwise black legs. He's got yellow stripes on his face, with red stripes on his neck. I don't have a pic yet, my cam is charging, but I'll get one when I can.

wow, never thought this would happen

You can do a search for species of turtles and maybe you will see one you recognize. My daughter has a turtle she found and we identified it but I forgot now what it is.

sounds like the mid atlantic painted turtle. look at the bottom of the shell. if it has a very pretty "tatooed" look try looking up painted turtles. they are the most common in us. they are mainly carnivores, but later in life like veggies. It is late for nesting time but you probably have a female because they stray to lay eggs away from the dangerous water area. We have two if you need any further advice I'd be happy to help
