Yambasticks is on a distinguished road
neekko the sissor beak

Neekko is my rescued special needs cockatoo, I'm sure the oldies here remember my posts about him, he's peg legged. What I didn't know was that he was not only a plucker but a self mutilator, and for a while there was blood he spattered here and there when I took him for showers. Now he isn't plucking and the feathers his wing feathers he mutilated are nearly completely back, his flying ability, zero, I still have to take him in the towel and take him down the hall with a fly neekko fly and he's gradually getting so it doesn't hurt to flap his wings and is getting a bit stronger, great news.

now the crazy concern and quite natural for any bird, we did get him a new cage, and its nice, I just don't like that the door is smaller than I wanted it to be, but its working for him. We put an x shaped rope perch in the cage, a cacti perch, a bridge for him to get off his platform to get to his food and water. and we used pine to make his plateform, and the bridge, the smart thing we did was choose a material he loves, silk to cover his platform, but our beloved Neekko is quite the sissor beaks, he chewed through his bridge, so he's got cliffs so I'll have to replace the bridge in a bit, but hey its wood, and its good for him to chew, and he can safely manuver around in that cage. Becky, remember that food bowel I hated? Um I have no choice but to use it. Neekko kept throwing his food dish either out of the cage or to the bottom of it. I know you asked me to post a picture of his new set up, but hubby hasn't had time and felt well either, knee replacement surgery for him, and I'm too computer stupid to know how to do pictures and upload but will get there eventually. But Neekko is proving he isn't helpless at all, and attention is getting us everywhere with him, but I do suspect that he'll never fly. Just wish Shanlung was able to assess that, but he can't see what goes on with our beloved cockatoo, and yea hes still a DAADDY's boy. Lets us know to. So this is update on Neekko, the sissor beaks. He's having tons of fun, and um he's quite the road runner too. New phrase to teach him. I'm the boss.
