Why do you have to wait three days?

Toothache is a bad bad thing. Right up there with ear ache. Anything to do with the ENT department of our bodies is excruciating.

You can try a topical gel like ambesol. (there's another brand too, can't think of it now)

I have heard that putting an aspirin directly on the affected tooth will help. I've never tried it so don't really know. If you can't stand the taste you could try children's chewables.

Ice packs on the side of the jaw that is affected.

I'm sorry you are suffering.

Have you called your dentist and explained how much pain you are in? My dentist will usually get me in quickly (squeeze in emergency patients) if I let him know. He will do a quick temporary fix until a full appointment can be made.

For instance I had an infection which turned into needing a root canal. The gases building up inside the tooth and not finding an opening for release caused awful pain. I remember nothing seemed to help. Once the dentist removed the filling I was fine and was able to wait for my next appt without pain.

Taking alieve or advil did seem to help a bit temporarily.

Give your dentist a call and explain how much pain you are in and come right out and ask if he can't squeeze you in somewhere to help you out.

Clove oil is still availiable in most drugstores, a drop will numb it temporarily. Next step is get the dentist to call in an Rx for antibiotics and pain meds, because he won't pull it untill the infection is gone anyway. Failing that, there are always street drugs, or suicide lol.

You have my deepest sympathy on this one, from age 23 to 39 I almost always had one or the other tooth bad. Fixed that problem, now I just have dentures that no longer fit, but at least I can take them out when they start to hurt.

P.S. I forgot to say I am sorry you are in such pain. It hurts awful - I know and I wouldn't wish toothache pain on anyone.

Dear Lord, toothaches are the worst. I have had some horrid ones in my time. If it is a cavity, putting asprin in the hole works. Oragel works to numb the whole area, its just short lived and you'll have to keep putting it on, but its worth it. Taking ibupropen or tylenol helps. Also, if its a cavitiy, my grandmother swears swishing with whiskey will work. She says the pain is an exposed nerve and the whiskey deadens it when it sits on the tooth for a while. Never tried it though- can't stand whiskey! She grew up during the Depression and knows every cheap remedy known to man. They always work, I just can't stomach some of them! I'm sorry you are in such terrible pain. I'm with the others- I would try to get squeezed in as an emergeny. Feel better!

Oh dear, that is a pain I know too well. I agree with nana, call your dentist and get an antibiotic and pain killer. Mine usually will give me a few days worth of Demerol, and it really does make it better...mostly because you sleep through the pain.

Good luck Jet.

Aww I'm sorry you are in so much pain Jet.

I dont have much else to suggest, the others have already said it, last year when i had a really bad tooth ache ( it was really bad, made it hurt all the way up into my ear, i thought it was an ear infection, as i'm prone to those, and never had a tooth hurt that bad), i would break a tylenol in little pieces, and stick it directly in the tooth, tastes awful though, and of course this works better if you have a cavity. Oragel also worked well, but didn't last long, i would have to re-apply every hour or so, but it did help, i think it's worth it.

like others haven mentionned, try calling your dentist.

Good Luck!

I do hope you've found some kind of pain relief.

If it's a stronger pain med you need, you can buy Ultam/tramadol online with no prescription. Possibly even at a pharmacy, but that I'm not sure about. It's a great med, and not a controlled substance (not yet at least).

I feel for you, I've been there, and it's horrible!

My brain isn't working!! I layed down to stop the pounding. Eventually, Igt up and decided to forse my way to the destist. The area around my temple was aching violently. I remember going out the door...but that's all. I found my self laying in the yard. I must have fainted. I was soaked (we had a strom).
Funny thing, my teeth are sore, but the immense pain is gone. I must have laid in the yard for 3 hours. I'm feeling better but ver odd. Can't seem to walk in a strart line. I'm a liktle scared, byut i am a chickenabyway. Nana, the colve oil wrked good. Nice tempo fix. Going to lay down now.

If you don't have someone with you at home, please call and have someone come and keep an eye on you. If that's not possible, you may really want to consider calling an ambulance. I'm really worried about you.
