Congrats on your new luvie! I found out last week that my lovebird (Bijou) is a female when she laid 2 eggs. She's only 11 months old (hatchday: July 13, 2002) and we always thought "she" was a "he" until last week.
Anyway, lovebirds are great birds ... very active, comical, and sweet (when not in "breeding" mode... )

I don't know what I'd do if I looked in Barkleys cage and found a egg!

Cute and awsome pics! Eggs! Just thinking about it gives me a headache! That's why I'm getting a male budgie like the avatar I got out of those pics.

I was wondering if lovebirds can be as interactive as the pionus or conures. Amanda, whenever you talk about your birds it seems that you interact with the pionus more then the lovebird. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that, I just wondered if you find the lovebird more of a bird to watch then interact with?

DSimko, lovebirds are exactly as casegura described. Bijou is a little clown ... and I'm sure she does all the things she does because she knows she'll get a laugh out of us. You are right that I haven't been interacting with Bijou as much the past few weeks ... that's because she was in "breeding mode" and refused to come out of her cage. She became so territorial about her cage that I had a hard time cleaning it. When I forced her to come out (using a dowel for her to step up on), she was in such a bad mood the whole time and she let us know it too. She would purposely dive down to us and peck us on the top of our head. Or, she would come up and want to snuggle with us and as soon as we fell for it, she would bite. And she bit so hard and always drew blood. Before she went into the "breeding mode", everyone could handle her (even the kids). But as soon as she became hormonal, the kids became terrified of her and would leave the room whenever I let her out. Anyway, she is now out of her "bad mood" and back to her sweet self (Thank God because my fingers were getting raw!).
In summary, I would say that Bijou had a really bad case of PMS

Poor baby Bijou. Give her big kisses from Mrs. Birdy.
(There I go again kissing all the birdies)
