Yard Gnome

French police are seeking good new homes for more than 80 yard gnomes kidnapped in France earlier this year. The bearded ornaments were snatched by the Gnome Liberation Front from homes in the small town of Saint-Die-des-Vosges.The gang is well known in France. Since 1997 it's members have "liberated" more than 6,000 gnomes from private gardens. No ransom notes were delivered. But in a shockingly brutal move, 11 of the gnomes were found hanged under a bridge. A note at the scene read: "When you read these words, we will no longer be a part of your selfish world in which we serve only as decoration." The rest of the gnomes met a happier fate. They were discovered by a priest one Sunday morning outside his church, arranged as if they were waiting to go to Mass. Police have never caught the culprits. And they have been strangely frustrated in their attempts to reunite the gnomes with their families. So far, only a few people have come forward to claim any of them as their own.
