Possibly, depends what type of wood, what it's painted or treated with.

hasn't your sister ever heard of hamster bedding?????? It is sold at any localpet store and is free of all chemicals. Does incompetence with pets run in your family?

If the you bought it at an pet store it is OK, my guinea pigs have those. But if it is not from a pet store it should not be exposed to them. If your guinea pig chew off a large portion you should probobly ask your vet about it.
