Poems Of Remembrance & Tribute
SPECIAL POEMS
I WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE THIS THREAD TO SPECIAL POEMS MEMBERS WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHERS ABOUT PETS THAT HAVE COME AND GONE IN OUR LIVES. IT WILL BE MADE A "STICKY" SO IT WILL REMAIN NEAR THE TOP OF THE FORUM FOR ALL TO SEE. THANKS FOR SHARING WITH EVERYONE!
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Why Pets Don't Live As Long As People
WHY PETS DON'T LIVE AS LONG AS PEOPLE
(Author unknown)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owner, his wife, and their little boy were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
~~~~~~
As we made arrangements, the owners told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old boy to observe the procedure. They felt he could learn something from the experience.
~~~~~~
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. The little boy seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.
~~~~~~
Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. The little boy, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
~~~~~~
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, "Everybody is born so that they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sentiment is sooooo sweet!!
My boy Stubby was a Springer Spaniel. He died in July of 2000 @ 11 years of age. 2 weeks after my mother passed over. He was the most loving creature that God has ever created. He loved me more than I loved myself most of the time.
He comforted me thru grief and cheered me up when I was blue.
I love you and miss you, boy.
My girl Scooper1 was a chow mix. She died in 2004 @ 14 years of age. She was a loving girl once she got to know you.
But only if she knew you!!
She comforted me by sharing her love and her faithfulness.
I love you and miss you, girl.
I have 3 girls now. A Rotweiler mix named Sassy Bear. A pomeranian mix named Scrappy. And, a pit bull puppy named Scooper2.
I love all my girls, and they love me too!!
But, I still miss those who have gone before.

Sorry to hear about those that you have lost Nursekare. Our pets bring so much into our lives that it is good to know that having other pets is not replacing them, but just making room for more in our hearts.

That is a very nice tribute to your Star. The pics are so wonderful too! They never really leave us do they? It is so sad to have only shared such a short time with Star. I have always really like this poem:
Lend Me a Pup
I will lend to you for awhile
a puppy, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and to mourn for him when he is gone.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe for two or three.
But will you, till I call him back
take care of him for me ?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief .
I cannot promise that he will stay,
since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.
I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowd life's land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain
Nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again.
I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord Thy WIll Be Done,"
For all the joys this pup will bring,
the risk of grief you'll run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness
Will you love him while you may
And for the happiness you'll know forever grateful stay.
But should I call him back
much sooner than you've planned
Please brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.
If, by your love, you've managed
my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that you've loved,
cherish every moment with your faithful bundle,
and know he loved you too.

Hmmm I can do this. But the link I posted was so much more then just the words. I tried opening it myself and it worked. Not sure what to do.

Hi Sasha,
Yes the link I found to the Rainbow Bridge had a bright blue back ground and had little pictures and butterflies in it. It was so much more. I am not sure we can get all that to show up here though. Hmmm..........???

Heaven's Doggy Door
My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
and it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And Oh...his many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart that's filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends, He's installed a 'doggy-door'!!!

Contributed to the forum by JustJo:
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this--the last battle--can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
Don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so.
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close--we two--these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I absolutely LOVE this one!!
To Love Again
Oh what unhappy twist of fate
Has brought you homeless to my gate,
The gate where once another stood
To beg for shelter warmth and food?
For from that day I ceased to be
The master of my destiny,
While she, with purr and velvet paw
Became within my house the law.
She scratched the furniture and shed
And claimed the middle of my bed,
She ruled in arrogance and pride
And broke my heart the day she died.
So if you really think, oh cat
I'd willingly relive all that,
Because you come forlorn and thin
Well don't just stand there - come on in!

Get the TISSUE BOX is correct for I have just cried many tears for my beloved deceased pets! Reading these peoms and Rainbow Bridge brought back so many tears that I thought were sinse long gone. The Holidays are upon us and I cannot say that I haven't teared up thinking about my furkitty and furdog BUT coming here and reading just simply made the tears heavily flow once again. Where's the TISSUE BOX.....snif, snif, snif!
