Dog lost bladder control?

I've got an 8 y/o male dog that was hit by car about 3 years ago and some of his nerves were damaged. Well effect of it are really hitting now, he has lost his bladder control when in the house, while sleep he goes whenever and it seems when he stands up it just runs out. Have carried him to vet and he was checked for infection first but none was found. She gave him some proin to try but that has had no effect either. has anybody else experienced these problems? she is contacting and internal medicine vet to see what else could be tried for him. thanks

I don't have any advice but want to welcome you to Pet Lovers and offer some support for what you and your dog are going through anyway.

You are to be commended for going the extra miles with him.

Is it because of nerve damage, or muscle loss that this is happening now? I don't know much about them but would "doggie diapers" be an option, at least while in the house, and while you search for other solutions?

Watch out for urine burns, they can be very unpleasant, I use a dilution of one part white vinegar (small cap full) to nine parts warm water, this used on a clean soft flannel to wipe legs, tail and bits and pieces. I also use this as a last rince for bedding and mats that may get urine on them. The urine is alkaline and vinegar is acid and they neutralise each other.
Hope this helps

Also, dust bicarbonate of soda onto dry carpets .. leave for at least half an hour then vacuum off .. this can help remove any urine oder from the carpet.

Hope it goes well at the vets..
