Although you all have made some good points, I feel like sharing my personal experience about the y/d food. My cat has been on this diet for about 2 months now, eating both canned and dry, and is doing very well. He was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 3 months ago and was very intolerant of the medication. He threw up continuously and started losing patches of hair because the medication was making his skin itch. He is a 16 year old cat, and I cannot afford surgery or radiation treatment, so I was very scared. Then the vet said we could try the food. She only had a few patients eating it and didn't know what the results would be like. So we tried it, and almost instantly he stopped vomiting multiple times a day and has slowly started to put back on weight. I just had his blood work done yesterday and his thyroid levels have decreased dramatically, while still slightly elevated. So we are going to stick with the diet as it is proving to work. I just think it is important for people to know that if you are going to use this diet, the cat needs both the dry AND canned food. I am just so thankful for this food because it has saved me incredible expense, and my cat gets to enjoy his senior citizen years without having to take medication.
