my doberman's liver

My female doberman is 8 1/2 years old and has always been about 75-80lbs. In the course of a couple weeks back in March she dropped to 46.2lbs. After lots of labs and bloodowork we determined it was her liver. It took a while but we finally got her meds right and changed her diet and I'm proud to say she is back up to 62.5lbs!! That is still a little light compared to what she used to be, but I'm so glad she is healthy again! I just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is dealing with liver issues out there. There is hope and you can deal with it and bring your babies back to health!

That's awesome! My dog was recently diagnosed with liver cirrhosis (February '12) so we're still learning about it.

My dog had the opposite problem that led to her diagnosis- she gained ~10 pounds when her body suddenly started retaining fluid But with a diagnosis and change in diet, she's at the healthiest weight she's ever been and back to puppy type energy even though she's 4 years old.

We're still trying new things to slow down the worsening of her liver and keep her going for as long as possible, so I'd love to hear more about your dog's story and what you're doing. Would you mind sharing a bit more about how you're treating it?

Yay for good vets and hope after diagnosis!

I am happy for both of you that your dogs are doing better. Please do keep us posted and feel free to share any details that might help someone else, from symptoms your dogs' showed, tests that were done, medications and other treatments the vet prescribed.

I hope both dogs continue to improve and live long happy lives.
