Feliway and Cats in the Shelter

I recently started volunteering at my local shelter. I write the bios for the cats. I love cats, and I have cat. My rather embarrassing problem is, I am so nervous to reach into the cage and pick up a strange (i.e., unknown) cat. In fact, I'm kind of nervous about even trying to pet a strange cat, unless it is obviously very friendly. I heard from one of my vets that they used to have a tech who had such a way with cats -- they loved her. Finally the tech admitted she was spraying herself with Feliway. So I'm thinking of trying this. Any thoughts?

As for using the feliway spray on yourself, why not? Can't hurt, might help. Please let us know how it works

Sounds like a brilliant idea to me. And do let us know what happens. I have an herbal spray called Rescue Remedy and I have used that before and it worked.....
