Unhappy I said good-bye to my dog today

Hi guys...I've posted this in General Dog lover's section, but I felt that it would be appropriate to post it here too.

My 10-year-old shih-tzu had to be put down today due to a stroke attack, and I am in so much heart ache . I miss her because everywhere I look in my house reminds me of her, and because I wasn't even prepared to let her go just yet. The death of a stroke in dogs--even in humans--are so soon, that I'm still currently in shock. Everything happened in a matter of a few days...not even weeks.

I also have a 7-year-old chow that had been very close to her, and I'm afraid she would go into a depress mode now that she's gone, so I wanted some advice from my fellow dog lovers. Is there a way I could express to my other dog about my shih-tzu's death that she would understand, so she can cope well with the loss?

awl,,,, i am so sorry for your loss... and so sudden...
dogs do also mourn and get depressed so i understand your concerns. i had two GS and lost one, mine were brother and sister and Ollie was devastated when losing his sister. he would almost refuse to go back in to the backyard and still does not like to go without me.

I immediately changed up his (our) routine.. if they were super close like mine were, and if you are missing her, you know she will be missing her too.. so if you can, just try to change up the routine, take her on walks, car rides, play games with her, enjoy time with her. She will also be able to feel your emotions on missing her and may feed off of those as well.
Just be there for each other.. it is the ONLY thing that helped me through my loss.

Good luck, and again, so sorry for you loss

Thank you so much, I appreciate your word. I know that in time things would get better, but it's been a rough week, and I still couldn't believe that she's gone. I was around her everyday, and when she's suddenly not there anymore, I can't help but cry.

I give extra attention to my chow these days, and when she's around, I make sure I'm in a positive mode because I know that she will sense it if I'm depressed, and she will be concerned. It's hearbreaking to see her look for my shih-tzu every now and then. She's trully missed.

I'm so sorry for your loss of your beloved girl. Gosh it hurts so much I know, and is so hard on the ones left behind. You and your other dog will comfort one another as you work through your grief. I'm so sorry.
