Lightbulb My cat will not stop crying/meowing during the night! Suggestions Please!

My roommate and I adopted a mom and baby cat 2 years ago; however, last month the roommate and I moved to separate houses. Sadly this led to the splitting up of the cats. I ended up with the kitten (who is now 2) and expected her to need a lot of time to get used to a. the new environment and b. the lack of her feline companion/mom.

I have tried giving her A LOT of attention, especially right before bed and have bought her more toys to try and keep her occupied. For the first few weeks, I tried getting her to sleep with me in bed, but she just ends up walking all over me and keeps me up At night she is crying from around 3am until I get up for work. Any other suggestions on how to make this process easier for her so that she isn't so stressed and crying throughout the night?!

I'm really sorry to hear the cats were separated. Your little girl is grieving and looking for her companion. It will take some time for her to get over her loss, but there are things you can do.

Feliway plug in diffusers can help with stress. They release the same kind of pheromones cats themselves put all over everything in their world when they rub their faces on things and scratch on things. I love feliway for stressful situations.

Rescue Remedy, a calming tincture for pets, can also help.

It's good you are spending plenty of time with her, one on one attention is very important. Create little routines and rituals for the same times every day, it will give her something to look forward to. Cats thrive on routine, so if she knows you are going to play with her/groom her/feed her at certain times every day, it will help her feel more settled.

Play with her a little right before you leave for the day, this will inspire her to play more on her own after you are gone, keeping her active and not sleeping during the day.

If you can, put a bird feeder outside a favorite window. This also will give her more to occupy her during the day, so she may sleep less while you are gone, and so sleep more over night.

I'll be back, if I think of anything else.

I wonder how the other cat is getting along. Did you both move to different places or have you stayed in the same place and the roommate left, with the other cat?

Welcome to pet lovers and please keep us posted on how she is doing.
