Question spinal nerve damage

hi all, have just joined and this is my first post... have a 11 y o maltese ****zu who is currently having steroid medication for spinal nerve damage, her walking has improved a lot but she can no longer do the things she used to do, my problem is her bowel and bladder have been affected and despite taking her outside frequently, she has "urgency" ie must go there and then, cannot wait. so i am forever cleaning up after her and while i know she cant help it, its becoming annoying and probably is for her too. does anyone have any suggestions..PLEASE.

Hello, welcome to PL.

Have you looked into the diaper option? - http://www.bellaspainrelief.com/dog-...-2352-prd1.htm
http://www.dogmobility.com/diapers.html

Obviously continue to take her out regularly and keep her clean even if you do get diapers for her.

Try not to let yourself get too annoyed over this. It's not worth it. There are far worse things in life than having to clean up after a little dog that you care about. Be glad she's not a Great Dane.

Aw, it's hard work when they get old and frail and have all these problems isn't it. I know you know she can't help it, but please do try to control your annoyance. She doesn't need the stress of feeling your disapproval on top of everything else.

Be cheerful, tell her it doesn't matter, and clean it up. Perhaps keep her in an area without rugs when you can't be there to take her out every hour, you know baby gate her in the kitchen, something like that? (make sure she has a comfy bed and her water of course.)

Or you could try training her to use a specific spot, in every room, and use puppy pads in those spots.

Welcome to pet lovers and please keep us posted on how she is doing.
