R.I.P. Jelly Belly

I lost my old boy Jelly this morning.

Several months ago, he was found to have a tumor growing deep in his abdomen. Due to its location and Jelly's advancing age, surgery really wasn't an option. At first it grew slowly, but in the last month it started growing much faster and by last Thursday it had grown to the point where it was obstructing his lungs' ability to fully expand.

But his spirits were still high and he was eating, so my vet and I decided not to put him down. We knew he didn't have long, but we felt it just wasn't time yet. Last night he took a really bad turn for the worst. I waited to take him in, hoping that he might rally and improve a little, but it didn't happen. By this morning I'd decided to have him put to sleep. He didn't live long enough to make it to a vet. Shortly after 9:00 this morning, while I stroked his head and told him how much I loved him, he took his last few breaths at home.

I'll miss you, Belly Boy.

Apologizing does not mean that you are wrong and the other one is right. It simply means that you value the relationship much more than your ego.
