[quote=Wiztherewoz;328281]Me too, but now I've got to thinking of all the poor cows and pigs who have their babies snatched from them to be immediately slaughtered. QUOTE]
That image tends to hit me more and more often while eating. Or rather while preparing the food, when it's harder to ignore that it used to be alive. I may become a vegetarian yet.
Silly of me, while shopping at a closeout store for dog beds (I found a place to stash them that the cats can't get to and show their opinion of dogs in pee) I saw some kids gloves trimmed in rabbit fur. I felt an urge to buy them and put them up to keep them from being damaged by kids wearing them. I didn't, it's a little late to show respect for animals once they're dead, and even possible that the purchase would encourage the stores to order more next season.

You did a wonderful thing and you guys have a great animal control unit out there. Poor momma, I'm so happy she's back with her babies now.

I just read the website of a local kennel in Indiana and they said that large black dogs are always the last to be adopted......I wonder why???

After visiting an animal shelter and seeing all the abused and neglected animals and I cried and asked God why He didn't do something about it. He said," My daughter I have, I made YOU " ANONYMOUS

Today, I was sitting inside my office at the shelter when I heard someone come through the front entrance. I, being the only on there, got up to see who the visitor was/wanted. It was a semi-nice looking older woman with a crate in her hand. I asked her if she needed any help and she just bluntly stated that her 'Labrador Retriever just had this litter of pups yesterday and that she can't have them'. I then asked her why she was giving them up so young, and she went on to say, ' I bred my dog to another yellow lab who carried balck genes. I wanted yellow pups, but they all came out black. I don't want black pups, I want yellow, and I refuse to let my dog raise such a nuisance of the breed.'
I of course, got inraged. I asked her what kind of low-life person she thought she was and that a dirty person like her should not be aloud to breed animals or even own them for that matter.
I grabbed the pups and told her to leave.
I instasntly jotted down her license plate number and called animal control to tell them the situation and that she might be running a puppy mill.
I then went to the back with the crate of puppies to check them out. All 9 pups were all clearly newborns and in need of some TLC and milk. What was even more sad is that they were wimpering, probably for thier mother.
About 2 hours after thier arrival, I got a call from the Animal rights inforcement officer to tell me that the woman was pulled over and someone was sent to her house. When officer's arrived they said that there was only 1 dog(which I'm assuming was the mother) and a bunch of parakeets and that they were living in filth and that the dog was malnurished. So, they seized the dog and 43 parakeets and that they were on thier way to the shelter with the dog.
When the dog got here she was clearly abused, scared, and malnurished. I set up a whelping box in my office and put the pups down and then walked her into the room. She jerked herself away from me and instantly looked happy to be reunited with her pups.
As for the birds, they will be going to a shelter that is better equipped to house parakeets.
The woman, I am happy to say, is in custody and awaiting trial for multiple counts of animal abuse.

Wow! You go girl! That is awesome they acted so quickly! I'm so glad the momma got to be with her pups again and that they and the parakeets got out of that situation. Just think, if the pups had turned out yellow the poor animals would have still been in that situation, thank goodness for the black pups, now that woman will never own animals again! I can't imagine people like that, so terrible and uncaring. Its like so many stories of breeders discarding puppies because they are the wrong color. White boxers and labs with what I'd call "rottie markings" (yes even purebred labs can occasionally be born with the tan markings that look like rottweiler markings) are often even killed for their colors because breeders don't want to bother with them. There are some other breeds with disqualifying colors that are often killed or given away but i can't think of them right now. And to think, labs are even allowed to be black in shows and this woman doesn't care because not only does she not show (at least i very highly doubt it) but she just wanted to make money and for some reason black labs don't sell as good as yellow labs so she didn't want to take the time to sell them. It pisses me off so much that there will always be people in the world like that. At least that is one more down though. Again, Awesome Job getting her turned in!

well, I think you'd better dust of your shoulders, give yourself a pat on the back and have a nice cold drink, you have definately done your deed for the week!
it blows my mind someone could do something so ignorant, and then, to call a specific coat coloring of the breed the nuissance? I've yet to meet a yellow lab that was any less a lab than a black one or a chocolate colored one for that matter.
thank god that woman lost her animals, I sincerely hope she never had children.

GOOD FOR YOU, EM!LY!
I know that I'm getting to this post really late, but I just joined the site.
But anyway, that's really great that you called her in and got justice for the poor mama dog and the birds. It's absolutely disgusting how some people can be so stupid and careless and irresponsible with animals. It's infuriating, but at least in this instance, things turned out for the best!
