    Question Parakeet home temperature?

We're thinking about getting a couple of parakeets (budgies), which will be our first birds.

I know that birds should be kept away from drafts, and should not be subject to sudden temperature changes. That is not a problem, as our house is very weathertight, but we're cheapskates and tend to keep the temperature quite cool in winter (generally 50 degrees Fahrenheit = about 15 C.)

Is that too cold for parakeets to get used to?

That is much too cold, yes. 70 is a good temperature from my experience, I'm cold-blooded though and keep my thermostat at 73.
