Hi all,

my stepson has gotten himself into a financial pickle and we are going to take his cat as he can't care for her any longer. He lives in Colorado, and we live in TX. I recall reading about some type of volunteer pet "railroad" quite a while ago, where volunteers drive a pet a certain distance, to another volunteer, and so on, until the pet is close to his/her new home. Do any of you know about such a thing? I really wish I had kept the info, but it didn't have any relevance at that time. I searched the web, but cannot come up with anything specific, am probably not using the correct search terms.

Would be grateful for any info,

Petra

Hello Petra and welcome to the board :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your stepson. Is there any way you guys could meet half-way?. There is a California Rescue Railroad, but they only cover certain western states and I believe they are limited to dogs. Here is their address:

There are a few sites below that might help, many say they transport dogs, but its worth a try.... PLEASE keep in mind, when asking people you dont know to transport your cat, there is no guarantee that your cat will arrive safely..if at all. About a year ago, volunteers(via internet) agreed to help transport a rescued German Shepherd across numerous states to its new adopted home. One of the transporters really liked the dog and decided to keep it for himself.... the dog never made it to its destination. Unfortunately, legally there was nothing the people that were adopting him could do. The guy got himself a free GSD.

Hope these will help you ... Good luck! :)
