I have a 4yo boxer/shepherd mix and has eaten a couple of our son's soiled diapers. Does anyone know of the long-term effects of this. She's apparently pooped out the cloth-like lining, but I'm concerned about the absorbive gel in the middle of the diaper. What is it and what can it do to Callie's digestive tract?

Any experience with this?

I'm sorry i'm not going to be much help....but I wonder the same thing as you. My mom does daycare and has a cocker spaniel that eats EVERYTHING. she will even eat the clean diapers, as well as any dirty diaper she can get her paws on. She also always seems to poop them out but what are the dangers of this. My moms vet isn't very good and says well as long as she poops them out she'll be ok. But there has to be some kind of problem with it.

I do know that a friend of mine's monkey had to have surgery for a blockage. When they got in there they found gobs of the gel from where she had eat pieces of her own diaper. The gel part doesn't always pass and builds up.

Blocckage can certainly occur from the diaper material, gel or combination of both, both there is always a fair chance that they may pass in a dog as large as a boxer. Monitor the dog carefully. If any signs of loss of appetite, vomiting, or stools ceasing to pass, he should go to the vet to be x-rayed. As long as these materials are defacated out, they should not pose a problem. Good luck! rw
