my wheaten terrier had puppies recently, they are thhree weeks old tomorrow. she has started looking very uncomfortable going into their area of a room. there is a mat and 2 blankets on the floor, and it is blocked off by 6" high boxes so that they don't get out. she has no problem jumping over it. however, ive noticed that she doesn't want to go in anymore. when the puppies see her, they started whining and trying to get over the boxes, and she'll start whining.
we originally thought that she was drying up, but it isn't the case, as she was literally dripping with milk today. i took her and the puppies outside, and she laid beside me and fed them. could it just be that she's uncomfortable having them blocked off?

This could be what is bothering her but it is strange. Surley someone who is more up on animal behavior will know the answer. Welcome to Petlovers too....home you have a great time!

well i bathed all the puppies and washed their blankets, took away the boxes. she doesn't seem too happy about going into their area, so they have to go to her, but they get food now..

I know this post is coming a little late but when my mom's poodle had pups she got really depressed and the vet said that poodles are known to get jeolous(?) easily. The doctor said to pay lots of extra special attention to her and had us give up the pups early (which I wouldn't advise for you because she wan't feeding them at all) The day we got rid of the pups she returned to her old self but the doc said he has seen poodles die because of getting so upset about this. Just a thought and I hope all works out.

Also once the puppies start getting teeth it is painful when the mama's nurse and often some will refuse to do it or look very upset.
