Should I worry about getting my dog spade. She is a year old and went into heat about 4 months ago. Will she be in a lot of pain? Or am I just being silly?
Ease my mind PLEASE!

I reccomend spaying and neutering all of your dogs and cats. It helps prevent cancer, and prevents unwated pregnancies (and by extension, helps the dog overpopulation problem). :)

I agree with Jennicat 100%.
And don't worry, DixieGirl....spaying and neutering is such a common procedure....and I have never, ever, ever heard one thing from anyone about things going haywire afterwards.
As Jennicat said, the pros of spaying your dog far outweigh any cons.
(I still can't come up with a "con", lol)...
I haven't had to have a pet spayed in so many years.....(my pets have been coming to me "pre-fixed", lol).....Maybe someone here whose had a pet spayed recently can post and let you know what to inspect? Anyone?
Something else to keep in mind, and this is something I DO know firsthand: our pets have an AMAZING ability to heal and bounce back from surgeries ...my little girl Bootsie, OMG, if I had to go through all the things that my poor Boots did, I'd be a whining crying baby, lol!!
At any rate, go ahead and spay your furbaby, and trust me: no need to fear with this, She'll be just fine, and you'll be doing good by her. :)

I could not have said it better Paula... Dixie Girl, I do not think you have anything to fear about this and the outcome is so much needed to help unwanted babies when there are so many who will never know a loving home the way it is. Please keep us posted!

don't worry your dog will be fine!!
I got 2 of my cats already fixed, and we had to have my male fixed when he was a few months old. He came home the same day they did it and the only thing wrong with him was that he was drowsy from the anethsia(sp?). He slept mostly, but when he did get up and walked he bumped into some walls. The next day he was back to his usual self. :)
I haven't fixed my dog yet because he will be bred, but I do plan on it down the road.

Get it done at a reputable vet, and you'll be fine. I just had my pound puppy spayed about a month ago, and she recovered just fine. She was 10 months old at the time, they gave her three little stitches, and she recovered rapidly. Definitely take the antibiotics they offer you- most vets don't require that you buy them for the dogs, but I think they're totally worth it. Also, if they offer you pain medication, I'd take that as well.
Good luck, and good for you for being responsible enough to do this for your dog!

She most definetly should be spayed. Don't worry. They recover very quickly. My dog was spayed while she was in heat and she did fine. She was back to herself on the third day. The Vet will usually give some pain medicine too. Dogs recover much quicker than humans do.

Nowadays vets use pain management after surgeries.... talk to your vet about your concerns... she'll be fine and yay for you for getting her spayed!! :)
