not only with my tiel laying her first egg, but one of my budgies, Dazzle, had a growth on her chest about the size of a dime. I worried all weekend then finally got her to see the vet yesterday. Well, my fears were erased when he told me it's not cancer or any sort of tumor, it was due to the fact that I clipped her flight feathers too short and she was making hard landings on her keel bone. Apparently she badly bruised herself and the skin broke causing a blood blister. The vet peeled away and removed the blister and underneath we can see new skin beginning to heal. Vet told me to leave it alone, it will heal on its own. Thank heavens for that. I was so afraid of losing my Dazzle. I see signs of improvement so far...she is moving around normally and eating fine again. YEAH.
Have any of you had a similar experience?

I'm so glad that Dazzle's fine! I've sort of had a similar experience with my budgie Little Greeny, when one day I noticed a small orange "bubble" around her preen-gland area mostly hidden by her pretty green feathers. It was getting larger slowly so we took her to the vet and unfortuneately it was a fatty tumor, from the years I had had her when I was little and only fed her seed and nothing else. Thankfully your bird is getting better, although poor L.G. will always have her tumor! Fortuneately, fatty tumors don't affect birds all that much usually and it's been over two years since she's had it and it's gone from growing smaller to larger again, but hasn't gotten overly big yet (I'm hoping it will stay that way!).

.....it seems to have healed, but today I noticed she is picking her chest a little and the site looks irritated. I wonder if some neosporene ointment would help it. I will keep an eye on it and if it gets worse I'll call doc again...maybe its just a patch of dry skin.
Also, she is out of the sick cage and back in the cage with our other budgies and is as happy as a lark......she missed them.
P.S. Birdygirl...thanks for thinking I am a good birdie mom
and Jenny....thanks for your comments also and I hope L.G. will be ok.
