There is a local pet shop that I go into every now and then. The only reason I go in is to say hi to the puppies and give them some much needed attention. This place is very sleezy, the people who own it are scum. The poor dogs sleep in their poop and pee, only get a little bit of food and water, and it is extremely hot in there, no fans or AC. They put 2 dogs to a cage, and the bigger dogs get their own cage but have no room to stand up at all.

Well anyway, there was a Golden Retriever puppy who was born in January, who had been there for months and months. I went to see him every week. He'd give me his little paw and sad eyes and kiss me. It was like he was saying please get me out of here. :( I asked the owner if she ever walked him, because he was so big, and she said no. The poor pup... so anyway, I went in there yesterday and he was gone. I asked if someone bought him and she said no. I don't know what happened to him. I've heard petstores will dump the animals on the road or put them to sleep if they aren't adopted. Is there someone to contact to put an end to that? I hate to know what happened to that sweet goldy...

I am so sorry to hear that. I hate hearing stories like that.
He probably got put to sleep or is being used as a stud.

You know the next time your in the store you should try to trip the owner/
Maybe the dogs will get lucky and the owner will fall on her head. LOL

Sorry that was a little bad humour.

Did you ever consider helping them out at that dirty petshop?
Cleaning the cages out and taking the dogs for a walk. Giving them the
love they truly need. From what you've said they don't seem to be properly
cared for. And since you seem to love them so, you would be the perfect
person for the job. LOL

Hope to hear from you soon.

That is a good idea! If they pay you (and you aren't hard-up for money) you could take that money and donate it to a local rescue. Or you could also be a whistleblower for the humane society....

That is not a bad idea. I used to walk dogs for a shelter nearby. Thing is, if I got my hands on those dogs and walked them, I think I'd take them and run! How could I bring them back to that awful place? But I'll ask them, it is worth a shot!!

There is a pet store here that althought he cares for the animals well, I don't know where he gets his puppies, he always has a litter or two there and he sells even mutts for $400!! I don't want to criticize him because he really does take care of the animals well, but I bought a chinchilla from him and I was told it was a black velvet female well come to find out it was a dark standard male! Before I had bought a standard male and he was beautiful so I thought buying this one would be no problem, but oh well, that way I got to get two females from another person so it ended up well.(please no one say don't breed petstore chinchillas, they never bred anyway) But this owner needs to know a bit more about all his animals rather than just his fish and reptiles. now he mostly sells fish and a few reptiles, puppies and chinchillas, I don't think he even has hampsters, guinea pigs, or mice (except feeder mice) anymore. He always did keep the cages clean, kept them in appropriatly sized cages and fed them good food. He also has airconditioning, but his prices and somewhat sneekiness worry me a bit.I think he knew that black velvet was really a standard because when we went back after awhile to tell him to watch out for people selling him standards as black velvets he said he only gets standards and the occasional mosaic. And he said that someone told him that this was a female which by the way was kept with another female who I actually think may have been a female. But he should have checked for himself. Anyway, I hope you can help out in the pet store with those poor puppies! I applied to work at the petstore here but he basically just hires family member to help him out (I don't think he pays them.) I couldn't help with the prices, but would make sure people get the pet they pay for since I now know chinchilla colors completely and can easily sex most animals.

Maybe if you do help out there and clean the place up a bit your urge to run away with them won't be as great. Let us know how it goes.

I know how you feel. Paul and I regularly visit the pet stores around here to socialize and love on the puppies. Last year there was a female Akita who we affectionately named Moo Cow. She was there for several months and was a very hyper pup. She needed lots of TLC and to be in a home. We would visit her every weekend to see if she had gotten a home and eventually she did. I hate to see them all looking so desperate for any kind of contact, lying in their dirty cages for hours on end. I also hate to see them splay legged from walking on the grates at the bottom of the cage. It just breaks my heart.

Let's just hope that wherever the golden puppy is, he is in a much better place. I get so irritated with people who breed animals just to make a profit!

Ever consider what our dogs must think of us? I mean, here we come back from a grocery store with the most amazing haul - chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest hunters on earth! - Anne Tyler

I LOVE THAT.

Well I asked if they'd consider hiring or letting a volunteer play with the pups and take them for walks, etc. they said no. Said they have all the workers they need and don't want any help. I said but no one walks these puppies and I'd do it for free but they still didn't agree. The only ones that will lose out on this are the pups. :(

Well they sound like a bunch if ignorant individuals. At least you can say that you tried. Perhaps they should be investigated?

Sounds like there afraid what you might see if they let you to close :(

Maybe consider calling the HSUS or the ASPCA on them and let them take a look.

Yeah I plan on taking a trip to the SPCA to check out some dogs anyway, maybe I will mention the pet shop to them. Although they are very overwhlemed right now, it can't hurt.

Did you find anything out Riley? I hope the SPCA was able to check them out. I don't care how clean, how wonderful a pet store takes care of their puppies, they are still keeping the thousands of puppy mills in operation. Situation like these are going to keep going until the puppy mill industry is squashed!

They said they are too backed up right now but they wrote it down. There are a ton of kittens and puppies coming in everyday so they have their hands full, but don't they always. :(

Are there humane law enforcers in your area? I know that some places will shut down stores until they are up to code.

Do you have an Aminal Protection Agency in your area? I onced was denied to play with the puupies in a well known Pet store that I had already bought two puppies from. One of them was over $500 and the other was $800. But buying a dog or not I think all Puppies need people to play with them so they are ready for human interaction when they are bought
I went online and wrote to the company to say I had been denied to play with the puppies because I was not a serious buyer. I explained that I had already bought 2 animals and didn't recall seeing a sign that required someone to buy a dog to play with a dog.
Well I went back 2 weeks later and found out the ownership of the store was shut down and they had a new owner. This owner was a lot more friendly and allowed everyone to play with the puppies. I told them what happened and they couldn't believe it. They said the only people who are denied access to the puppies are young children without adult supervision and even then a store worker if they are not too busy will sit in there so the child can play.

So If i was you I would find out who to talk to in your area and get them shut down. They don't seem like the right people to own a pet shop.

Thats a good idea. I used to work at a pet shop, and before I worked there, you could hardly stand to walk in there it smelled so bad. The owner refused to sell dogs or cats, but the hamsters, rabbits, ect. looked like their cages were never cleaned. After I worked there a while, they started looking better, and we sold more to good homes.

That place definetely sounds suspicious. I mean, to have someone offer to help take care of the animals and they say no...they must not care too much about the welfare of the animals. Or maybe they're worried about the same thing you are:that you'll run away with the puppies!!J/K! Maybe it would be a good idea to spread the word about this petstore.. that way, if they don't get much business...they'll be forced to shut down..hopefully.

Geez...I hate petstores. I mean, it doesn't bother me if they sell fish, or small animals, cause it's easier to have enough room for them, but dogs and cats and chinchillas and rabbits... these are animals that need to run around lots in order to be healthy.

have you tried calling the media on it.... usually if they step in the agencies that are supposed to be monitoring the pet store ssuddlenly get involved to cover their own butts. At least it helps the animals. WE had a place shut down by me last year. We got a bunch of people together and kept calling on it. Make some noise

yes another sad story of humans making money from animals and then giving NOTHING back to them...
Let me just ask EVERYONE to think about this b4 the next time they walk into a petshop to buy a puppy....
Every puppy purchased from a pet store will allow the puppy farmers to continue their gross industry of milling puppies, it will condem more females to a live a life of nothing but birth and pregnancy and it will be one more dog put down at a pound ..Instead of buying a pup from a petshop go to the pound and rescue one, that way you have not only saved one from death but you have helped to stop the puppy farmers and their torturous ways too......
If you want a pure bred dog then got to a reg breeder and get one with papers that has come from a happy and healthy home...Please do not allow the sad eyes in the window to sway you as you will be feeding the evil machine....that is puppy farming.
