Ok, bad news first.. I gave Clay a bath because he had been outside and laying around in the dirt plus it was time for his once a month bath. I'd say that was about 1 Tuesday afternoon. Then, around 9, I was wondering where he was because I was online and he wasn't pestering me. So I went around to look for him and saw that he was laying under the table with throw up beside his head. I wasn't really that worried because he eats anything and everything and he usually throws whatever doesn't agree with him up. After I cleaned it up, I noticed that he wasn't moving.. so I called him and was trying to wake him up but he wouldn't respond. By then, I was FREAKING OUT. I totally paniced and didn't know what to do so I got his blanket and wrapped him up and called my new friend, who works at a vet clinic. He immediately came over and said just by looking at him that he was poisened someway. So we went to the clinic and they evaluated him and stuff and said that's he'd take care of him, to just come home. He took a blood test to be sure of what it was but he said that it was a great possibility that it's from the Hartz flea and tick shampoo. After the blood tests and all, he found that it was.

Good news: Yesterday (Wed.) I went to see him and he was doing 100% better and was super happy to see me. I called today and they said that if he kept his food down all day today and all night then he can come home tomorrow. AND I forgot to update you guys that I discussed with the vet about surgery (WE CAN UP WITH THE MONEY!) and as soon as Clay recovers fully and feels better (to minimize so much stress on him at once) then I'm going to schedule for surgery.

Anyways, my point to get across is to not use Hartz. Not only has this happened to my baby.. but a lot of other people too as far as I have read here: www.hartzvictims.com (http://www.hartzvictims.com/)

Wow thanks for the heads up
Is it all of their products or just the flea and tick shampoo?

Wow, that's weird and scary. I use the Hartz flea and tick shampoo and the flea and tick preventative. I've never had trouble with it, but I only give Shiloh and Kit a bath every few months and the prev. is used rarely (its supposed to last like 3 months I think). I'll have to look into this I was already thinking of using different prev. and we are almost out of the shampoo, I don't know if I should use it or not.

It has been ages since I have given Hartz a penny. Hartz shampoo is horrid...I too learned this just like you did Mybunsrun. I am sorry your baby went through this. :( With all the problems and complaints Hartz has with their products, how and the heck do they stay in business.

One of the things that most concerns me is that Hartz uses permethrin. I first heard of it in my agriculture class... it's a very common pesticide! Even though many places say that it is "safe" for use on dogs, it's possible for many to have reactions to it, AND it's been known to cause tumors in rats.

Im so sorry to hear this mybunsrun :( . Im glad he's doing better. I never use Hartz products... or flea colors... flea colors are worthless, dangerous and should never be put around an animals neck!.

I'm glad that you were lucky and that your dog didn't have an allergic reaction to the chemicals in their products, which are not intended for use on animals originally. There have been thousands of people across the country who have had serious problems, though. On a vet tech group I'm in, they list it as the #1 cause of toxicity of animals coming into their clinics. : )
