I have a six year old beagle mix who is having stomach problems. She won't eat and the little that she does eat comes back up. She has bloody, mucousy stool also. She is losing weight and strength. She has been to the vet numerous times and they can find nothing wrong. She has had blood work and also an x-ray all of which came back fine. She has been on different medications, none of which have worked. Has this ever happened to anyone? Any advice would be appreciated!

Did the vet suggest a mild food like Science Diet I/D. Its easy on the stomach. You also might want to try boiled chicken and rice to see if that helps. Something definately sounds wrong, think about getting a second opinion from a different vet. Casegura is right, dogs will chew and eat everything. Keep an eye on her... also, some plants, flowers and shrubs can be toxic to animals.
Best of luck to you.

Did you have her checked for having whipworms?? They are intestinal parasites that can cause bloody diarrhea and inflammation in the intestinal tract. They are uaually found in fecal samples of puppies. If left untreated, chronic infections can result in weight loss and debilitation. Dogs become infected by ingesting eggs that are found in their environment and the eggs can persist for months to years. Vets test this with a fecal floatation test and it's usually cured with drugs the vet will give you. I don't know if this will help you, but it sounds similair to a problem described on another site and what you are describing with your puppy. Hope she gets better soon!

Dear Friend....it is time for you to find another vet...one who will not stop until the health problem is identified. At this point your vet is stumped and may not do anything more for your dog. The test results and x-rays belong to you because you paid for them. Ask your vet for them and tell him you are going to seek another opinion. Find another vet (ask all your friends who they see) or ask your vet to refer you to a specialist (internalist). DO NOT be afraid to insult your vet by moving in a proactive way. Your beloved doggie is counting on YOU to help him become healthy again. If your vet is the nice person you think, he will understand this move.
I speak from experience that ended tragically....please do the right thing while you still can. Vets are only human and can't solve all of your pets problems. Move on before the problem becomes too serious to help. Good Luck to you and your pup...Scout

rykade....

It has been a while now and I am sure we all want to know how your Beagle mix is doing. Has anything new developed since your original post? Please let us know how your pooch is. I keep thinking about him/her.
