Hi guys, one of my friends took this picture last nite. We have been watching these two birds build this nest for a long time. They were both sitting on it last nite so we thought we would get a picture. I'm not sure what kind of birds they are their tail is shaped like a pair of scissors. Anyone have any ideas?
How cool, I love watching birds building nests. I have lots of babies in my yard at the moment, but they're high in the trees so I can only hear them.
To me these look like House Martins, but I could be wrong. Take a Google Image search and see what you think. They could also be House Swifts but they may be another name for the same bird.
Hmmm...ignore me, I don't think you get House Martins in the US. I'm British and I see them a lot in the UK and they sure look like them, but I looked them up and it says only Europe and Africa. But the ones you have are of that family, some kind of martin, swift, swallow!! I'll ask the hubby when I get home....he knows all about birds
Hubby says he's pretty sure that they're Barn Swallows....aren't they lovely :)

Thanks Gina, I love watching them sooooo much. They were pretty upset when we took their picture. And while building their nest they got mud all over the front of the house. But I love watching them.

Definitely Barn Swallows. I have them in my barn every year. Excellent fliers and can they snatch the bugs out of the air... ;) Great mama's and will return year after year to their nest. Hubby leaves the barn door open at the bottom so they can come and go as they please.

Legend has it that if they nest over your door it will be a good year but if you tear it down it will be a bad one!

My Moms house has a little part that sets back a little bit farther back from the rest of the front of the house and she always puts a hanging plant in. Well, one year a bird built a nest in it, and we were able to watch the birds grow from the window and we happened to notice that momma bird wasn't coming around and the baby birds were not moving. My Mom thought that they died, and was going to give them a few days before buring them. I was walking out to get the mail, and on the way back I walked up to the plant and hit the bottom of it really hard. Those two birds in there shot out of the nest like they were on fire! We never saw the birds again.

Krazy's right! They are supposed to be good luck Princessnmi! Swallows are THE best (I think martins belong to the swallow family too) for eating mosquitoes and other pesty bugs around your home. Everyone is right..these are definitely barn swallows. They make the coolest little mud nests!
