Does anyone have any working solutions for our problem with our golden retreiver urinating on our lawn? We have lots of brown spots in the backyard. Have really gotten ugly. We have an invisible fence which he has stayed in from day one. He is about 1 1/2 years old and a big guy. Is there any product that REALLY works to help deter him from the backyard. We also have a wooded area which would be fine for him to use but of course he has "marked" the backyard instead! Thanks for any solutions.

Hi KY3D and welcome :)

Guess everyones scratching their head on this one LOL. When theres a dog in the yard, brown spots in the lawn follow. You can train your dog to potty is a certain place in the yard, it just takes a lot of time and patience. Take him to the place where you want him to potty, when he does, praise him big time. This has to be a constant thing... everytime he has to potty, take him to that spot. You might want to put a fence around the lawn while your training him. It wont happen over night, but hopefully he should get the message after awhile. Goldens are very intelligent and great dogs.

Best of luck to you :)

Hi KY3D!

I had the same problem with my dog. Milo. We eventually had no lawn! At the time we had a much smaller, fenced in yard. My husband decided to build a dog-pen towards the back of it. We put Milo in there when it was "time". Eventually he learned that was his place to go and he went in there without our coaching. When Otis came along, he just followed Milo's example. Since then we moved into a new house with a much bigger yard, however like the old yard, it is fenced with smaller area fenced in as a dog pen. It didn't take long for the dogs to know where to go--and our lawn is beautiful!!! :-)

Good luck to you!

One lady I've talked to who has a pomeranian and lab said that at first her lawn was turnign all brown from the urine but then she started feeding the dogs this special food which makes it so their urine doesn't stain the grass- and you should see her lawn now! It's perfectly green, even with the two dogs. I'm sorry I dont' remember the name of the product but you could try asking pet stores and vets if they know of anything like that.
