I'm doggy sitting a Pit Bull [very family oriented dog] she is due anytime and is having an awful time with fleas. Without going to the vet, what kind of flea medicine could I use to help her out. She is so big I am unable to get her into my claw foot bath tub to even give her a bath. She is in so much distress. Poor Baby I want so much to know what to do . I have limited funds and just got her license . So... I don't want to do anything that might harm the pups. Any help will be gladly accepted. Thanks All:confused:

Hi jc,

Who are you babysitting for... can they help with the costs?. I use Frontline and have had great success with 4 dogs and 3 cats in the house.. we have no fleas. Frontline is pretty expensive and I dont know if it would harm the unborn pups. Call a vet and just ask them over the phone... they shouldn't charge for just asking. Good luck on the delivery!.

Without putting the pitbull in the bathtub, go to a clean spot, put newspaper, or more clean things down. And take a bucket fill it with water and add shampoo and conditioner in it. Wash the dog like that, it shouldnt be that hard, or could it? The dog couldnt run away it prolly can, cause it is pregnant, it will be to slow to run. So try that.

Sometimes you can get Frontline at a farmers supply store or even online for much cheaper than they will sell it to you at vet's office. You may want to look into that. I wouldn't think it would hurt the pups since it doesn't go into the bloodstream, but i'm not positive....that may depend on how close the due date is - since you wouldn't want it get on the pups in anyway after they are born. I would just ask the vet and then buy the frontline somewhere else if he says it's okay to use on her.
