He/she is doing quite well for having to put up with all the changes made since Wednesday. We were able to take 3 pics of Bullet. What a sweet heart, but still scared and clinging to me like velcro. His/her diet switch-over to pellets is going pretty smooth. We've had some snap peas, broccoli, cauliflower, and two big pellets so far. It has only been and hour since we have come home too. ;) Luther is blabbing his head off right now....hehehe, lil poop. We are hoping with lots of love and healthy food and environment, Bullet's feathers will improve.

Oh how sweet is he...or her? :D We need to see the cage too! I bet he's a happy camper in something other than a dog crate! Glad to hear the transition is going well and he's eating a nice variety of food. The feathers look good in the picture but what's up with that? Picking or just rough from the wrong kind of diet? Is he talking yet? He's beautiful. I'm so happy you finally got him home. :)

Oh Magnum he is beautiful!!! I see he has step up down. That is so so exciting! Thanks for getting some pics posted. Is Bullet in the same room as Luther? Luther is probably thinking hey I am not outnumbered by those four legged oddities anymore!!!

Okay Sherry, here is the cage....It's just like Luther's. Joe said he didn't want them fighting over who had a better cage....LOL. We really wanted the bigger one, but the bar spacing was 1.5" and that is too wide. There is also a manzanita swing (huge), and a boing we haven't put in yet. Joe said I was over whelming him/her to start and to wait on those... The stupid left cup on the playtop won't go into the holder. Joe said the perch is in the way and he has to adjust it. Sheeeesh, little things to do...hehehehe.

He looks so happy. I bet if he could throw his wings around you guys he would. He has no idea how much better his life is going to be. And I bet clear water tastes much better to him than green water. C'mon now, we need to see a picture of the playstand too. Did you buy that at the bird show?

Congratulations Georgia & Joe & the family. Bullet must think he has died and gone to heaven. He has such fancy digs now. Looks like he is settling right in and nothing that has happened since Weds. has bothered him --- probably smart enough to know that he is "stepping up". LOL

Hubby made it when we got Luther. He took one of those bent wood coat racks, took the top off, made the PVC, perch parts and added the bowls, and then slid the top onto the post of the rack. I use it to bring Luther anywhere in the house where I am at. He loves it when I am in the laundry room, but he is not very helpful.....lol. He likes to unfold the socks....stinker!!

Here's my laundry room. The sunlight is making the pic dark...sorry.

Well you knwo from all my PMs how happy I am for you! I just think Bullet is going to shine here in a few weeks with all of your loving care. Does he/she say any words as yet? I remember you telling me African Greys are the big talkers. How is Luther liking his new brother/sister?

Awww...Bullet looks like my little Buddy. You're gonna have a blast with your new timneh. I have so much fun with Buddy he amazes me every day with new stuff. Buddy's cage looks alot like that too except its a forest green. Do you have a problem with the play top on the top of the cage? I don't let Buddy go up there because when he does he's taller than I am (i'm 5'11 so thats not easy) and then he tends to nip and I have a hard time getting him down from there.

AWWWWWWW Magnum.....Bullet is just gorgeous and he knows he has it made in the shade now hahahahahahahaha You are going to have so much fun with him. Your days ahead will be so busy with Luther and Bullet that you will look back and say "what did I do before I got birds?"

CONGRATULATIONS :D

Bullet is a beautiful bird. I'm thinking it's a "he" because of the round eye and the red around the vent. I've always thought of getting one. Maybe some day. Lucky you!

Molly, Bullet is about 10 ft. from Luther with a door way between them. They can see each other no problem. All the fur kids visit with Bullet, but not all at once. He has done fine with all of them, except Magnum gets a neck stretched look....lol. I think it is because Magnum is full of energy, and Bullet is used to a senior Chow and two Poms. I think he thinks the cats are Poms....lol. As soon as Bullet is ready, he will join the population in the living room, so it's up to him.

Princess, both Luther and Bullet have indentical cages. Yes, I am height challenged, but my step-stool does wonders. Bullet's situation required a cage ASAP and my choices were very limited. So far Luther hates to be on his playtop at bed time. He feels safer in his cage and will complain until one of us tucks him in. Quakers are so unique.

Lianatch, I have been wanting a TAG for over 6-7 years now. I had my Mexican Red-head, who now resides with my brother (long, happy story actually), and he came from an abusive home. Getting a baby was not a problem, but getting one that needed a better home, and one that I felt sure that I would be able to succeed with has taken a lot of research and people like everyone here to help in my research. This is why I found this board orginally. :) I will be the first to admit, I put my fur, and now feather kids before anything. I am so thankful for my hubby in feeling the same way. Honestly, without his mutual love for animals I would have never been at the right place, the right time to have Bullet.

NorthAl , you've given me a good idea...Thanks!!!

Hope I didn't miss any other questions.....you can cyber slap me if I did... :o

I remember how you were looking into getting a grey... and then possibly switching to an amazon?... :D Didn't you also want to move first before getting another bird? I must have missed everything :o But bc I knew you wanted a bird and that it was definitely going to be a rescue, I am so excited for you and for the birdie. I am so glad he got into your home. He couldn't be luckier!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes and the wonderful support for Bullet. He/she is doing well, and is enjoying the new toys, clean environment, and watching tv with hubby. :) He/she has started with the vocals Sunday night, so things are looking up. So far we have gotten a Hello, Whooooop, and Whoa.... ;) Also some pretty tunes that I can't make out what they are from.

Lianatch, wanting to help a medium sized bird, regardless of breed, is more important then my personal want for a grey. The fact that Bullet is a grey had nothing to do with our willingness to help. Our paper occasionally has owners who have "made a mistake or other various reasons for getting rid of their parrot", otherwise it is breeders selling babies. Buying from an individual is a fine-line of supporting their compulsive buying, so I take this very serious. But when we first saw Bullet's environment, we were taken way...way back and had to get him/her help ASAP. We paid the individuals for him/her (after some real stressful days) and transported Bullet directly to our vet. If our vet decided that Bullet would have needed extensive rehab., we would not have taken him/her, and all of our costs were going to be donated for Bullet.

There is a Blue-fronted Amazon in Oregon that is in foster care. If Captain is still available when we move, I am going to put in an app. for the 23 year old. The adoption agency out there requires bird/care behavior classes. I am currently working with my vet on this very subject and she has taught me hands on experience that is worth so much.

Here is Captain:

I hope you dont think that I was trying to say that you were switching between breeds bc you were being picky or something to that effect. I know that you were very determined to help a bird and you asked about greys and amazons probably to learn more about them in preparation for the challenge. But of course, being impartial to greys (bc I have one), I was excited to see that you got one. I know it must be so heartbreaking though to actually go through the rescue process. I think you are very courageos and have a big heart. I read the details of how you got Bullet and it brought tears to my eyes. It is so sad that so many birds out there need help. I look forward to getting to know your Bullet better...

Thanks Lianatch for your reply. :) I honestly was confused on the first portion of your previous post, which is why is took me so long to reply myself. I am sure lack of sleep didn't help my thought process either. Thanks again...it means a great deal to me. ;)

I re-read it myself and I see how it may have been confusing :( . Limitations of writing vs live conversations :)

I was wondering - are your birds housed in separate rooms? One of the things I can't decide - if we were to bring another bird home, would I want to put him in the same room with the other one (which is with us in our bedroom), or separate. I keep finding pros and cons to both...

Magnum
04-26-2005, 11:42 PM
I have them separated right now per my vets recommendation. There isn't a question about Luther's health, but there still is one for Bullet's. There is minor concern for an underlying disease since there are many blood tests that would need to be done to rule out everything. As soon as Bullet is settled and is ready to be with the rest of the family, my vet said it should be safe by then. It has only been 4 days since Bullet came home, but he/she is really doing well and I feel is ready to be with all of us. I talked to my vet yesterday on Bullet's progress, and she said the adjustment is going much better than expected, but to wait just a little bit longer. Luther is really the only one that doesn't visit with Bullet, but they can see each other with no problem.

Hubby has been coming home from work this week around 1:00 to spend time with Bullet. Today hubby was in the kitchen making some tea and he heard a tick..tick..tick on the hardwood floors. It was Bullet coming into the kitchen to be with him...lol. He climbed down from the playtop and tippy toed on in to visit. I got home and hubby said "I think Bullet is ready to have a family".... :D

Sorry, I just realized someone had already asked that before me. I am tired in the evenings  I hope all the tests are over soon and hope they are all good! It sounds like he is adjusting well though. You know my grey started getting comfortable walking on the floor only recently! After living with us for almost 2 yrs that is. Usually from what I understand, greys do that once they are comfortable with the surroundings. Before that if they are adjusting, they prefer to be somewhere at the top watching everyone and everything. I bet he was cute walking to be with your hubby :p Don't you just love that wobbling walk...

My mom had an Amazon just like the one you showed in Oregon, Magnum. He was a darling. He would talk your ears off if you let him hahahahahahaha......That was the sweetest description of Bullet tippeee toeing in to the kitchen...I can see it in my mind right now...LOL
