I've been looking for a good brand of cat food for my indoor cat, she's on the large side (lol). I've used Iams (never again thanks to this forum), and I'm currently feeding her Purina One. I want something that she will like, but that is also healthy for her. Any Suggestions ?

I use California Natural Chicken & Rice. Good nutrition, easy for the furballs to digest, they love it. It's a 'premium' cat food & a little more expensive than purina one, but what the heck.

Nothing but the best for my hoolikittens.

I don't know if I'd be able to get that brand where I live, I'm pretty much limited to the grocery store and walmart. There isn't even a petstore in this town.
I'll look around for it though...
Thanks :)

I feed my little fella Solid Gold cat food. He really likes it. He also liked Wellness, and Eagle Pack. If there aren't any pet stores and you are pretty much limited in where to get food, there are a couple of things that I suggest. One is that you can buy food on the internet and have it sent to your home. This might be a little more costly than picking something up from the store, but you can get most of the best foods this way. One website that comes to mind is www.petfooddirect.com . A mail order pet supply catalog that has their own food is www.drsfostersmith.com Another option is to look for a "feed and seed" or a "tractor supply" store. Many places that sell feed for horses or farm products will also have some better dog foods to chose from. Just some ideas for you to try.

I will second what Steven said regarding www.petfooddirect.com as that is where I buy most of my cat food. The closet pet food store to me is a 45 minute drive. Pet food direct has specials all the time and I have gotten as much as 20% off on food! My cats are on Eukanuba . It seems like a high quality food and my vet agrees. The www.petguys.com site has great prices on food but they are expensive for shipping. I guess they would be okay for people on the west coast but I am on the east coast.

Hello Jade: Have you tried Science Diet? There are alot of different types, but all are guarenteed if your cat does not like it than you can get a refund. It is on the expensive side but I have not found a cat yet that walked away without eating it...Good Luck.

Science Diet is not a great catfood. It's about on par with Iams or Eukanuba. They use a lot of corn filler in it. I'm saying this as a mom who feeds the prescription Science Diet K/D my cat, and who bugs the vet constantly for a better alternative. :)

i agree with jennicat. ive never bought anything from a grocery store for my pets. and just because your vet sells it does not make it good quality either. heres a few sites to give you some pointers:

http://www.mordanna.com/dogfood/
http://groups.msn.com/GermanShepherdEtc-/dogfoodinformation.msnw

remember that foods like purina, science diet, and iams/eukanuba do alot of advertising and put their money into that instead of a high quality diet. and even though the food is more expensive, in many cases you feed half as much. and when you compare your purina O.N.E to foods like innova, wellness, eagle pack holistic, and solid gold, you will see there is no comparison. stay away from foods with BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin, by-products, and non specific meat sources. for example, you'll want to see chicken meal instead of poultry meal. good luck!

Hi Jade,
I have 4 cats they all eat different food. My Samantha and Sabrina eat Meow Mix for long hair cats <HairBall> and for my Savannah and Sapphire, I feed them Meow Mix for kittens. Savannah is just a year and three months old and her daughter Sapphire is 12 weeks old they are Ragdolls. But I have tried a few brands and they all love the brand "Meow Mix" They are all indoor cats.

Have you tried Flint River Ranch? They sell through distributors and the food is delivered via UPS to your home. It is a premium food, so it's not as cheap as the grocery store brands, but it is competitively priced with the food you can buy in pet food stores. Most distributors have samples you can try before buying. If you don't know any distributors you can go to: www.picnicpointpets.com.

Whatever you do, I'd recommend staying away from the grocery store brands because their ingredients are not very impressive. Sometimes paying a little more for a good quality food will prevent health problems and save you money in the long run and more importantly, extend the life of your pet!

try Nutro!! i put my kitties on nutro and now they shed not much at all, they poo less and when they do it doesn't stink nearly so much! it's worth the extra money you spend on it because it doesn't have as much filler so you don't have to feed as much! :D

and the cats love it, by the way...
