once again i have a question about elvin. i've noticed over the past couple months that he has little accidents in the house sometimes. mostly it's just a few dribbles, but once in a while quite a bit is let loose, as was the case tonight. i see him go until he's empty outside, and he goes out about every 4 hrs or so.

there seems to be no rhyme or reason to his going in the house. he isn't marking or anything....there have been no changes for him, and usually when he does it he tries to lick it up to hide it.... i guess.

any ideas why he might be doing this? my first concern is that maybe he has a bladder infection or something, but he doesn't appear to be in pain and has no apparant trouble going out where he's supposed to

suggestions please!!

Sorry to hear about Elvin. I would take him to the vet. Bladder infection is still possible, but I would be concerned about prostate infection as well. A neutered dog is not guarded against prostate problems, but it sure cuts down on the chances. One of the signs is urination changes, dribbling, small amounts of uncontrolled urinating. Animals are so routine and rarely have bodily function changes unless there is something wrong physically or mentally. Please keep us updated on Elvin. :(

so would prostate problems also lead to booty rubbing on the carpet? i was reading the anal sacs post, and i figured i'd have the vet excreet those next time he goes it, but now that you bring this up, it makes me wonder if the two could be related.

You know, I have not heard of "scooting" as one of the symptoms, but I have heard of them being reluctant to poody or demonstrating a possible constipation problem. There are several different prostate illness levels, and it seems that most deal with small accidental tinkling, or possible constipation, but they seem to have a loose stool. When they try to poody, it hurts and they back off and are reluctant. This will cause the constipation cycle to start. The other symptoms deal with the level of the illness, such as vomiting, lethargic behavior, puss or blood being passed. The first thing the vet might do is palpate to see if they can feel the prostate and it's size. They can do the anal sacks at the same time I would think since the palpation is done on that end as well.

Let us know what you find out for sure. It sure can help others that have or may experience the same thing. It just seems like the symptoms are border line to the possibility. Good luck and please give him a {{{hug}}} for me. :)

I agree with Magnum, the vet is the first stop to rule out any bladder problems. When Elvin does this, is he excited that you just came home, or he's been playing and getting excited? He's trying to lick it up, so he thinks he did something bad or is embarassed. Again, the vet is the first stop.

I will take him to the vet just to make sure. Hope everything turns out alright.
