They are two elephants that were located at the Detroit Zoo. Because of their age, 45 - 50 year old, they were unable to tolerate the cold Michigan winters. So the director of the zoo made the un-popular decision to move them to a reserve in California. Today is moving day for them, and while I loved looking at them, I hope that they are happier in their new home.

Are they going to PAWS? I hope they have a safe trip... :(

I was just watching it on the news and the trailer that they were put in said PAWS on the side. Is this a good place for them? The Zoo has been working with the girls to get them ready for the move for about a year now - so it would reduce the stress. Hopefully it worked.

Here is their website. http://www.pawsweb.org/site/homepage.htm

I think it is a wonderful place. They will be with other retired elephants that are doing great now and are free to roam on many acres. :)

According to the News - Winky and Wanda have made it to PAWS safely! One of the elephants is moving around and checking the new home out, and the other is being a little cautious and hanging around the barn. They haven't been "introduced" to the other elephants in the park, because they are giving them time to adjust to their new home.
