Hair Loss

My 8 year old toy poodle has recently started to loose hair around his nose.

Its the area right up to the nose, it started off a small area about /4 an inch or less, now its back to half an inch. The area started off being skin color, now its a darkish color. He rubs his nose on the ground/bed alot. Im not entirely sure if he had gotten into anything he may have been allergic to.


Any Clue what this may be?

Hi Hovoc and Welcome!! Do you have pics of your poodle so we can see what you are seeing? My poodle (Bu Bair) is going to be 15 and she has some hair loss on the bridge of her nose, but it's not real noticable. Her skin resembles a human with age spots. She does have a dark area at the bridge of her nose. Mine rubs her face on the carpet, my shirt, or anything else that is soft after she eats....lol. This has in turn caused the skin on her nose to wear the black off... :rolleyes: Spring is in the air and it could be an allergy to new grass coming in, or something blooming low to the ground and at your poodles level. Dust in the eyes is another reason low to the ground pets will rub their face. Does he lick his paws more than just to clean them off? If he is close to being due for his wellness check at the vet, I would go ahead and run him in early just in case.

his name is Sam. I only have a pic of him in general, not of his nose. He doesnt seem to be sick, or down in general. I dont notice any sneezing or anything. So i figure its just him rubbing his nose into the carpet or bed (which ive caught him doing a few times).

Sam is adorable!! He looks so sweet and cuddly... :) Hey, he still has black on his nose...LOL. My Bu Bair thinks he's a looker too.... ;) I do think the hair loss is from him rubbing his nose. Thanks for sharing Sam's pic and hope you enjoy it here on Petlovers.
