Hey John, the pic with the male chicks in the dumpster....Hubby and I went to see friends of ours for a day visit. They have so many different types of birds imaginable. Beautiful blue/black chickens with real long feathers on their feet, vibrant colors on so many. Ducks, Geese, just a mess of them. They have 640 acres and the birds run the place.

During our visit they told us about a hatchery that was not too far from them. They said they get all their chickens from there, free. Then they explained how......After the shipment of chicks go out for the day, they go over to the hatchery and find dumpsters full of baby chickens, ducks, pheasants....if it had feathers, it was in the dumpster......

They took us over there and the people showed us around. The incubators were stacked very high and there were rows and rows of them. I could not believe how many eggs there were in the humid warehouse. It was horrible!!!! I asked them why they just dumped live babies. They said the nutrition a chick gets from being in the egg will last them 3 days. If they don't hatch in time, or hatch too early, they dump them because they will die in transit. I asked one of the young guys that was showing us around how could he listen to those poor babies dying day after day. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "It pays good". Hubby grabbed my arm and pulled me aside. He said if I go off on this, they will probably not let our friends have any more birds, and that would be more that would suffer in the dumpsters. Ugh, I wanted to whack some sense into that kid.

I just don't understand how that can be legal. They suffer horribly...and for what?...$$$
