The most commonly accepted definitions are: vegetarians don't eat meat; vegans do not use any animal products in any way whatsoever, eating or otherwise. Vegatarians can drink milk, eat cheese and eggs, etc, vegans do not. Vegans also do not wear or otherwise use anything derived from animals.

Now, surely there are people who deviate from that and call themselves vegan, and surely there are vegetarians who eat meat once in a blue moon, but I think that would be the accepted definition. And there are plenty of categorizations one could make that fall in the middle somewhere.

I'm vegetarian but I also don't wear fur or leather and I only buy products that weren't tested on animals. I think it depends on the person.
