He says that to have open season on roaming cats, laws that relate to abuse of domestic animals may have to be amended.......
What next, open season on homeless people? This is outrageous!!! You are right Gina, I am getting to wonder what in the heck the fire departments are hiring these days. That is the second one here lately.

He must be some kind of nut! That would be terrible if that law would go into effect. Then other states would follow suit. That would definetly be a slap in the face. That would have devastating effects on animal cruelty laws.

No way!! I cannot see this ever passing. If it passes for cats, then why not roaming dogs? Some idiots just want to shoot animals for the fun of it. This guy is an moron.

my take on this is he lives outside the city limits
as I know you can not (not even in the Wild West of New Mexico) discharge a gun inside the city limits. Ok, gang members do, but....thats besides the point, their brainless children.
Then there are the landowners outside of the city limits who shoot loose dogs with the defense of protecting their livestock,
Oh, hmmm, I guess you could say he's just one of those idiots that likes to shoot things, power freak!

Jo, you know what it is like in Cali. Well, I came out here to the mid-west and it was a total shock to me on how animals are treated. I know there are discusting people in Cali too, but it was out in the open here. Dogs and cats are dumped all the time in the country. I had taken in so many in one year that I was overloaded. No one wanted a dog to feed, or adopt?.......heck no, they wanted a puppy. It was a joke with all the farmers on how many they picked off with their 22, or ran over with their vehicles. A cat that I took in was extremely hard to keep in. He would sneak out any chance he got. Well, my neighbor (80 acres away) shot him, then when I confronted him, he said, "Oh sorry, I thought it was just another stray". Did the sheriff to anything? NOPE....a farmer has a right to protect his land from predators... But, why was he found dead in my driveway? Ugh....I am quiting now....going back to the saloon.

I've seen his type before. Men who care nothing for anything but mindless killing. They find joy in slaughtering. It really does push me to the point to where I want to throw up. http://tails-x2.tripod.com/hunters.html This is my view.

I spoke with a naturalist because we have a lot of stray cats and he told me that these cats do kill many songbirds, but they really just have replaced the other predators that have been displaced by urban sprawl.
I really dislike the fact that we have so many stray cats here. They attack and eat my chipmunks, baby rabbits, birds and they can be found on the ice on my pond in the winter- trying to get to an open space for a drink. But to kill them or shoot them? NO WAY! I am ashamed that us humans have created this problem. I have saved one ferral kitten last year. My neighbor captured her mother in a cage and that poor cat was euthanized. I wanted to capture her and have her spayed- and released. But people here think killing is the solution. Sorry about this long vent. I am just so sick of us humans creating problems for animals and then killing them to "solve" the problem. Ugh.

My mother wrote to PETA and they provided her another address to which we should send a letter. Please join me in writing your own letter of disgust and mailing it off! Here is a copy of my own letter:

Thank you to all who are protesting this despicable proposal! We must stand up for those who cannot.

Just found this on the net - I guess this is what you get when you have a loaded gun just hanging around. Either that, or this guy is for hunting cats, and his cat wanted him to know how it would feel. ;)
BATES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A man cooking in his kitchen was shot after one of his cats knocked his 9mm handgun onto the floor, discharging the weapon, Michigan State Police said.
Joseph Stanton, 29, of Bates Township in Iron County, was shot in his lower torso around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the state police post in Iron River reported. He was transported to Iron County Community Hospital.
Michelle Sand, a spokeswoman at the Iron River hospital, said Stanton was treated there before being transferred to Marquette General Hospital for further treatment. But Marcie Miller, a representative of the Marquette facility, said there was no record of the hospital receiving a patient by that name.
A telephone message seeking comment was left Wednesday at Stanton's home.
State police said he was cooking at his stove when the cat knocked the loaded gun off the kitchen counter behind him.
