I keep repeating the same thing over and over. My quaker Bailey, watches my mouth as I keep repeating it. He's almost 2 now and picks things up on his own but that's what I did When I was teaching him. Becareful what you wish for though, mine never shuts up! :eek: But truthfully I wouldn't want it any other way.

Yep that sounds about right. The tail seems to be as long or longer than the body. Where did you get Rocky from? Is he tame? My quaker started talking around 3 months so nows the time to talk to him. They are so awesome. I know you'll wonder how you ever got along without him. :)

My Quaker, Oliver is about 5-6...I got him from my daughter and can never remember his age...LOL. He talks really good too and I have noticed his vocabulary really getting bigger in the last year. I don't remember when he first talked but he was really young. And yes...like 'too crazy said...they are jabber boxes and they are very sweet birds and you won't be sorry you got him. CONGRATULATIONS!

I don't have any quaker parrots of my own right now, I do have a TAG and he is just over a year old and talks up a storm. I taught him to talk just by talking to him...my friends laughed at me because at the time I was pretty much having a conversation with myself...but now I can have a full blown conversation with Buddy. Its like he understands. Our morning conversation starts as SOON as he hears me come out of the bedroom...he will yell "good morning mama...sleep well?" I'll tell him I slept ok and ask him if he slept good? and He normally replies with a "yeah" then he will ask for juice...and his breakfast...but I'll ask him what he wants for breakfast oatmeal or eggs and he'll tell me. Most of the time its eggs but 2 or 3 days a week its cereal. He also will yell at the kids, and the dogs...calling them all by name. (which I think is pretty good because are kids are foster kids so they are always changing) My aunt has quaker parrots and she did the same thing with hers ...just talked to them...she would tell them EVERYTHING she was doing...when you give them a kiss say kiss kiss etc. Talk to them like you would a kid. Thats what we did and my aunt has 3 quakers that talk, an amazon that talks, 3 cockatiels, and even 2 lovebirds. Birds are a blast and wouldn't be able to live without one now. Sorry so long ;)

they are just like kids in how they learn to talk- repetition and recognition.
You know- you spend a year trying to teach them to walk and talk, then the next 20 trying to get them to sit down and shut up.......... ;) :D

Oh my gosh Jason..you are so right there :eek: Oliver has really opened up to me in the last 6 months or so and he hardly ever shuts up. Last night I could not keep focussed on the tv for listening to him. He always hollers...ELIZBUTH......hahahahaha...meaning of course our grandaughter Elizabeth. He has started to call the cat in...by name...heeeeeere frankie ...kitty... kitty. His new word is Terry. When Terry came in for lunch today he started saying that and I had not heard him say that before. And he has the maaaaamma down pretty good also. :D What I love most is he will sit on my belly at night and wants me to rub his cheeks and beak area...he will stay that way untill my hand goes to sleep from giving him his "facial massage" LOL They are so unique and I bet you will never know how you got along with out him before!!!!!!!
