As some of you may be aware, back in December 2004 Sen. Conrad Burns added a rider to the Appropriations Bill which reverses the 1971 Free Roaming wild horses and burros act (Wild Horse Annie's Bill). What this new bill does is allows the slaughter of wild horses and burros for pet food, etc. It is definitely a cattleman's bill and it is horrible!! I remember reading this before Xmas and getting very upset that someone was able to sneak this in on us without ever hearing about it prior to becoming law. Go here for info on what is happening:

This site has a petition that can be signed:

We can't allow these mustangs to be slaughtered! They deserve to be free on OUR public lands!!

Done.
But if I may,
I found out a while back from MD Senator Barbara Mikulski that E-mail is the least affective way to communicate.
personalized, mailed letters and/or telephone calls or fax's are by far the most effective way to communicate with the people who represent you. It's best for you to take the extra time to send a personalized letter or call your legislators to ask them to support or oppose specific bills.
What I do is send a E-mail ,might as well its easy to do, AND write or call or fax.. just in case.
Keep your fingers crossed Jo

Thanks John.
The website I posted has a suggested form letter with instructions who to write a letter to and a link to find your senator and congressman to write to. In addition it has the petition link.
It's funny (NOT!) that the BLM site doesn't even mention that this new bill has been put in place and I only saw it (buried in the back) in my newspaper back in December so I don't even think most Americans are aware that this bill's rider was passed and this slaughter is going on. I guess all of the horsemeat is being bought up by foreign markets.
Sad, sad, sad.

The petition is about 250 from the 25,000 mark they are shooting for. I am surprised it hasn't reached it yet.
Here is a link to help find your representative in your area: http://hsus.ga4.org/humane/leg-lookup/search.tcl
It should have all their contact information for writing, calling, emailing and faxing them. ;)

I know who I have to write to by heart . and pretty sure they know mine. ;)
as a matter of fact got to write tomorrow to help stop A bear hunt. the first on they had in 50 years, a few months ago was a mess. It was suppost to taget (Ahem) problem bears, but the first bear killed was a 84 lb baby female cub !
The hunter said "oh well I'll mount the head on my wall" that caused such a uproar, that they called off the other hunting days. Thats not the reason given by the DNR , of course, bet we know.
But thanks to those hunters talking about a "trophy hunt" and the uproar it caused theres a bill now H.B. 371 to cancel anymore hunts!
