Redstorm asked for some help on one of her dogs that barks. It has increased barking when using a Muzzle. I shared with her my experience in using a product known as "Gentle Leader" and watching the video that comes with it so that the person places it on correctly and learns how to slowly integrate and acclimate the dog to it. Anyone who has had experience with the Gentle Leader for dogs either positive or negative could we hear from you?Thank you. Mary
I TRIED THE GENTLE LEADER AND IT DID NOT WORK FOR US. MY GERMAN SHEPARD-HUSKY MIX WAS SO BUSY TRYING TO GET THAT THING OF HER NOSE THAT SHE WOULD NOT GO TO THE BATHROOM OUTSIDE ANYMORE AND STARTED TO SOIL THE HOUSE. SHE GOT TO THE POINT WHEN I SAID "LETS GO OUTSIDE FOR A WALK" SHE WOULD RUN AND HIDE! IT WAS MISERABLE TO WATCH SO WE RETURNED IT AFTER THREE WEEKS OF CHAOS. SHE IS NOW BACK TO HER OLD SELF AND I AM GLAD. BUT I HAVE TO SAY THAT I SEE MANY DOGS WITH IT AND IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE DOG IF IT WORKS. I DID EVERYTHING LIKE IT SAID IN THE INSTRUCTIONS BUT SHE WOULD SCRATCH HER MUZZLE WOUND TRYING TO GET IT OFF SO IT WAS NOT GOOD FOR HER. TRY IT AT LEAST FOR TWO WEEKS AND SEE IF IT WORKS, YOU CAN ALWAYS RETURN IT. I HAVE ONLY HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT FROM PEOPLE WHO USE IT. GOOD LUCK ALEX

Thanks Alex,and very nice to meet you and welcome. I have tried a muzzle and it made him so depressed. He would drag his head on the ground and hide. He didn't want anyone to even look at him. I don't think that I can go that way. But thanks so much to let me know.

I've tried the gentle leader on my German Shepherd to stop him from barking... didnt work. He has a major problem being confined... whether it be tethered or kenneled. He's a rescue and cannot be restricted in any way. He has chewed his way out of a kennel.... so we've learned to work with him without the need to confine him. I also tried the gentle leader on my Rott/GSD mix and he about tore the house down trying to get it off.... didnt work with him either :( . I guess it depends on the dog.
