This is my littlest one Aiya. This is a picture of her first Christmas. She HATES being picked up and makes grunting noises as if you are squeezing her too tight. I have found this in every Shiba Inu that I have met and it just makes me laugh. I love her to pieces.

Aiya is so cute especially in the picture where she is peeking from under the blankets. She looks like a little teddy bear. I don't know much about Shiba Inu so I'm off to look them up on google. Aiya is such a cutie!

Awww.. she looks like a cream except without the pink nose! My Shiba, Bear (http://bearluv.mypicgallery.com/mpg/Route.asp), is a black & tan. :) I know what you mean about the being picked up thing, Shibas seem to get very uncomfortable when you pick them up. Adorable pictures!!

Thank you for your compliments on my little princess. Her nicknames include Ms. Priss, Shiba Diva Do, pumpkin and little one. She comes to anyone of them but if I really need her to come to me I just say "Cookies" and she is here in a flash. It is funny. She loves to be outside, rain, snow, whatever, and I will call her to come in and she will TOTALLY ignore me sometimes until I yell Cookie. Little brat. :)

Shibas are basically a miniature of the Akita. Same lineage and if memory serves me correctly Shibas came first. As far as her personality, she is very spunky, loves to play either with us, the other poopers or all by herself. She will run what we call the 500 around the room, stop to see if she has piqued anyone else's interest to play, and keep doing it then. Then she will grab one of her toys and literally throw it across the room with her mouth and go chase it. She is a riot. She is also a big cuddler on HER TERMS, like a cat.

Very Very Very easy to train. Potty training took about a week. All other like sit, down, stay, etc. a matter of days before she got it down. I have also taught her how to dance and say I love you. She is a big talker. I will say to her Aiya, what was that you were saying and she will just go on and on. I love her love her love her! Okay. Sorry there is a lot more to say about her but I will do that later so you don't have to read a novel! Thank you!

Ah yes. The Shiba 500. xD If Shiba's don't get to run everyday.. they go nuts! And it was the same way with Bear when we were training him. He learned SO quickly, though he did have a bit of seperation anxiety when he was little and would chew on the walls.. Shibas usually are really good outdoor dogs, only needing/wanting to come inside when it's really hot or really cold. Bear lives outside and he lets us know when he wants to come in. The Shiba is one of Japan's oldest dogs yes, and the Shiba did come before the Akita. If you look them up, they are called the "Shiba Inu" (translated: little/brushwood dog). I've also seen them called Shiba Ken, ken is another word for dog.

Kaye - Bear a very handsome and very photogenic. I am not sure if it was seperation anxiety or just boredom but I have come home to several pairs of chewed up shoes and books. Now I am just a lot neater and put those things away before we go to work. I think it has helped having Hana with her too. Those two are inseperable. Aiya, who is almost a year older than Hana, has taken on the motherly role. Every day, at least ONCE, Aiya will groom Hana. Clean the ears, the eyes, the nose and yes even her mouth. Hana usually starts off my complaining, then Aiya will put her paw on Hana's head to hold her still and Hana submits. Even though Aiya is the smallest member of the dog pack, she is BOSS. She is def. not aggressive towards the other pups, she just has that air about her and they comply. It is really funny and entertaining at times.

She is my first Shiba and I cannot imagine my life without her, or any of my babies for that matter.

I am glad I found another Shiba lover. Thanks!

Aiya and Bear are gorgeous!. I love Shiba's!. Our rescue lady specializes in husky's and shiba's... and yup, they are the breed compared to a cat LOL. They have their own personality and disposition. Our rescue lady will not adopt out any shiba's unless you go through Shiba 101 classes LOL. They're great dogs.

Thank you Jan. Shiba 101. That is hilarious but a good idea! All new pet owners should take a class like that.
