These are some of our trees we planted. They look so sad weighed down from the ice.

Here is my poor mock orange. Hubby has covered it in hopes it will survive.

Thank goodness they are pine and soft wood. Everytime I take the kids out to potty I can hear the snap, crackle, pop of trees. A couple years ago we had a real bad ice storm and a lot of trees either died or suffered from the weight of the ice and the wind. I hope it doesn't do that this year. :(

With all the snow we got last week, our trees look about the same. The carports in the apt. complex I live in were collapsing from the weight of the snow. It was the worst storm in 15 years. I hope your little orange tree survives the cold.

I have only lived here since '90 and I am getting tired of the cold winters. I know there are a lot worse places to be during winter, but I was born and raised in souther California and I am starting to miss it.....lol. Winter can be beautiful, but the freezing wind, ice and slosh really gets old after a while.
Peteybird, does it snow every winter there in Reno?
Python, you have to see and play in snow at least one time in your life.....lol. Maybe sometime you will be able to go snow skiing. That is so much fun!!

Hi Magnum. They do look sad. However, it is a pretty black and white picture! We are getting hit hard here too. They are calling for 8-12" in Northwest Indiana. It snowed a little bit earlier today but we have hard ice showers for about 14 hours and it is still going strong. I am so so glad that we still have power. Knock on wood. They sent us home early from work. I only work one minute away but I guess I'll take it. They also NEVER plow or salt our roads here in my little town. Makes for interesting driving!!! Take care.

As far as I know it snows every winter but not nearly this bad. Maybe a few inches every so often but that's about it. We got about 2 ft. last week. And there is supposed to be more this weekend. This is the first time I've lived somewhere it snows, so I'm not tired of it yet. But it does make for dangerous drivers. And other badness.

I thought about you yesterday Krazy because we were looking at the weather map and I saw it hitting your area. I figured you got snow on top of the ice. Glad you are staying in out of it.... :D
2 Feet last week Peteybird? Dang, that is a lot....whew, that would make for dangerous driving. Hope it calms down for you out there. My step daughter lives in the Vegas area and she hasn't called yet....lol. She usually calls when real bad stuff hits there.
Hey Molly, I can see on the map it is right over you guys. Knocking on wood here for you too!!!

Python - you only THINK you want to live in the snow belt!! It is beautiful to look at and fun to build snowmen and snowforts and have snow ball fights, but I think that you would get tired of the electric going out because of the weight of the snow and ice on the lines. And try driving on icey roads!! Not fun!!
And my two little dachshunds HATE the snow. I have to push them off the porch to go potty. And poor Daisy, last year, she couldn't hardly walk to the dorr because her little feet were so cold. I had to put a heating pad on her feet!! :(
Enjoy the sun!
And Walt Disney World! :D

Hi guys. I have to agree that I am tired of the winter in the Midwest. I prefer to have a white Christmas and then about 70 degrees the rest of the year! Sure thing. We got a little more snow today but nothing horrible. I am just SOOO thankful that we did not lose power. In 1999, we had a horrible storm. I was driving home from work, which normally took about 20 minutes, for seven hours!!! The satellite dishes were done so my cell phone did not work and there were cars blocking the roads. Luckily I had an Explorer at the time and somehow managed to get home. Iggee, my dearly departed, iguana, and I had to cuddle together under the covers to keep warm. We lost power for about three days. It was just me, Igge and my puppies. I remember I had to walk to the grocery store with a backpack and shop by flashlight. It was something I will never forget but on a positive note, I think, since I did not have power, I got to catch up on a lot of reading and reflection and REALLY appreciated all of the things I had taken for granted like ELECTRICITY!!! Ahhh. Hope you all are safe and doing well.

Magnum, the trees all look like that here too. Did you ever lose power? We did only for about 20 minutes, but the power is still surging at work and that is a pain b/c the computers keep going down right in the middle of transactions!!! That ice storm a couple years ago was horrible. But you have to admit it was kind of fun too? When our nieghborhood lost power we ALL went to my next door neighbors and camped there the whole time b/c they had a generator. So that was a once in a lifetime experience, all getting to know each other so well. EXCEPT my 21st birthday was the first night of that storm. It would have been nice if it could have waited a day...

No, we haven't lost power yet this winter ***Knocks on wood***lol, but the ice storm you mentioned a couple years ago we did for 5 days. It was really bad for some that rely 100% on electricity for heat. Generators were hard to find within the first couple days and oil was too. I used lamps for light and was fortunate to have extra bottles of oil on hand. Our neighbor borrowed a couple of them until they were able to fire up their generator. It was worse for some because they were out over 2 weeks. :(

I hate it when the power goes out. I only hope that the power never goes out during the winter, because I would have to drive myself and Woodstock to my Moms for some heat! It sucks to have to totally rely on electricity for heat and A/C!

My mom and sister are in Kansas City, MO, and my mom says that it was really sad to see all the big old majestic trees weighed down with so much ice. She said there was a major thaw yesterday and there is so much damage to the trees...what a shame. I hope everyone living down there manages to salvage their trees/shrubs.
Cheers, Tamara

We did have a great thaw today. It was in the low 40's and most of the snow and ice has melted from what I see. I haven't been up towards the city though. Our pines fared well since they are a soft wood, but some of our walnut and oak had breakage. I heard them cracking and breaking in the evening a few nights ago. :(
