This is what I've been reading to Jenny, but I just got a call a little while ago from a friend, who also has parrots, and said she talked to her friend yesterday that said our wild life refuge told her that our county is going door to door finding out who has birds as pets. They are going to keep this info on file and if theres another outbreak, they will come to our houses and confiscate all birds to be destroyed. Hubby said "over my dead body!". I really dont think they can do that, I'll have to do some research on our legal rights. Like I said, this is word of mouth handed down. I know there was a flyer on my doorstep a few months ago about ENDS and how they were trying to contact all bird owners, but haven't heard a word since.... I hope this info is in regards to a few months ago and since has been dropped!!

Well, if anyone comes to the door and asks if I own a bird, I guess my answer would be "no" as a matter of precaution.

your rights are documented on www.cocka2.com it gives you all the precautions to take, and you don't have to let anyone in your home unless they provide credentials, also make sure you provide biosecurity at your door step as no one can come in unless they take the necessary biosecurity measures first. if asked, your windows are kept shut, your birds have not left their cages beyond your house, you don't let anyone in with out biosecurity. only unless your area is unquarantine can they come and question you. if you have an outdoor avairy, make sure your birds aren't allowed out or chickens run through your backyard. i went to a seminar about it all down in san diego, when this all came out and there were people there who had the authorities at their house testing their birds and educated us. but the quaranteens have been lifted and now they are on their last thread of the disease being spread. the last outbreak was May something and it has to be 6 months of no more outbreaks reported for it to all go away (:

I agree with Squawksx3's husband but I feel they will do that "over their dead bodies".

We talked about telling them we dont have birds, but ours are loud screamers that you can hear a mile away... plus, Im sure they're checking with the Vets on who owns them. I haven't heard another word, so thats good news!.

I read about the people coming door to door in our paper also. But it was in early august so I don't know if they are still doing it or not. I live in California also.
