I had to take my 8 year old cat, Tigger, to the vet, today. She's having trouble breathing and standing up. The doctor said she isn't getting a lot of oxygen and her gums and lips are bluish. He gave her a steroid, diuretic and antibiotic. He said if she isn't improving in 24 hours, I will have to take her for a cat scan and/or x-rays. He seems to think it's something pulmonary. My 20 year old cat, Dixie, is still having a bloody nose almost daily. The consensus is she has a tumor in her head. I've been having a hard time reconciling myself to the fact that she probably isn't going to be around for a whole lot longer and now this thing with Tigger. It's really hard to see your babies suffering. Dixie acts normal except for the nose bleeds and is still eating just fine. Tigger, on the other hand is just lying on her bed, wheezing. There's nothing more I can do for her at the moment other than wait to see if the medicines work and I feel helpless.

I'm sorry about your kitties. :( I hope that they both get better, miracles do happen regardless of what vets/doctors tell you.
God bless,
Eve

Horsefeather, Thanks for asking. I had to have Tigger put down a few days after I had her to the vet the first time. She had renal failure and an engorged heart and was beyond hope of recovery. Dixie is still with me and went for several weeks without a major nose bleed, just a few drops a couple times a day. But day before yesterday, she had a bad one and another one, today. For the past several months it's just been a wait and see situation for her. There's nothing to do for her except treat the anemia that the nose bleeds cause.
