How Old Do Maltese Puppies Need To Be To Leave There Mother? :)

Hi MRSBALL and welcome :)

We just had a discussion involving rescue's and county employee's on what age a puppy should leave its mother. Our state law says 8 weeks... but some vets say that 6 to 7 weeks is better because the puppy bonds better before 8 weeks and has less behavior issues later on. I dont know and have never had any personal experiences. Good luck and we're glad to have you aboard ;) .

I have always heard puppies should be AT LEAST 8 weeks old to leave their mothers. Now, that being said, I got one of my dogs when he was only 6 weeks old. He is much more timid than my other 2. To the point where he is pretty scared of strangers. And he is VERY attached to my other dogs, especially my other male. He always has to know where Capone is and what Capone is doing. Anyway, my point is, I have no way of knowing if he would have still been this way if he were allowed to stay with his mom and litter a few more weeks? Or is he this way b/c he was separated too early? Oh well, I love him anyway. Actually I think I favor him more than the other 2 and always say he is my "sensitive, special needs child." ;) Just something to think about.
