My 7-wk old kitten is sneezing and now has a runny nose. Is there anything I can do for her besides taking her to the vet? I just noticed the runny nose. I'm being extra careful with her sinse her brother passed Tuesday morning. He was ill with a cold etc. and was a very sick kitty.

Did the Vet give you antibiotics ? I thought you said he did but not sure.
When her nose is running what color is the discharge ? Clear ; yellow ; green; thick white ?

It was her brother, LittleOne, that was sick and was given the antibiotics. When we were at the vet on Monday, Chenook was okay but now she is sneezing and the discharge from her nose is clear. I don't want her to get as sick as her brother was and he was already sick when I got them.

If you still have the anti-biotics from the Littleone I'd give it to Chenook.
Evidently they both had a bad cold or upper respiratory infection. It's safe to say what one has the other had too. I'd start the antibiotic treatment Immediately. As long as the nasal discharge is clear you are still OK !! I'd head it off at the pass before it got any worse ! You can also start up a vaporizer... That will keep the sinuses draining.....so it doesn't get clogged up and become infected. If you don't have a vaporizer you can put water on to boil.....at least keep some steam in the air but not overloaded. When Jellybean was tiny I would put a tiny bit of Vicks under his nose. On the fur part...TINY BIT !! That would keep the nose running. I hope this helps....I'll be online for a few more minutes.....my time here is almost 11:20 so not long before I hit the sheets !!

Your kitten most likely has one of four infectious agents - Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Chlamydia, Feline Calicivirus or Bordatella Brochiseptica. Only Bordatella is a bacteria and can be effictively treated with antibiotics, the rest are viruses. Does your kitten have runny eyes or ulcers in her mouth? Supportive care is one of the best things you can do - keep her warm and eating and drinking. Be advised however that your kitten may carry one of these viruses for life and have reoccurences with stress.

[I]Thanks! The kitten, Chinook, has taken all of her antibiotics and is still sneezing off and on
and has runny eyes now and then. I'll keep your advice in mind. I'm going to take her the new vet that we've been going to but at the time I couldn't get there and had to go to one that is closer to us.

I think my new kitten has Feline chlamydia as well. I have a 3 1/2 year old cat already in my house. What can I / should I do?
