Hello this is John,

I have a cocker spaniel that's about 3 or 4 years old. I've had him since he was a puppy. We've had several problems w/ him. But this problem is really testing my wife's nerves. Up intill about 6 months ago. His stools were fine. But he has nothing but runny stools now. When I'm home he goes out 3 or 4 times with in about 3 hours to take a poop. And if I'm busy and not watching him like a hawk he will go and take a poop in the house. It is normally in my daughters room. I don't think he's doing it in her room inspite of her. Because she is now 2 years old and this didn't start intill she was over 1 years of age. I've talken him to the vet they can't seem to find anything wrong w/ him. They were wanting to do a ultra scan on his belly. But it sounds costly. I love more than my wife knows. He has been apart of my family and daughters family for awhile now. I don't want to have to get rid of him can some one please help!!!

Hello John and welcome to Petlovers although I do wish it was under happier conditions. I personally can not help you but I could "hear" the urgency in your post and wanted you to know there are several members on here who are very educated when it comes to health issues on most animals. They will answer your post as soon as they read it I assure you, they do check in here frequently so hang in there! :) One comment I would like to touch base here was the ultra sound costing a bit much. Talk to your vet about an installment plan if it comes to that. Most vet offices are compassionate people who love animals and most of the time will help you as much as they can. Good luck.

Hi John, :) and welcome to Petlovers.

Have you tried giving him any Immodium? Try half of a tablet of Immodium AD or the generic equivalent after each loose stool. You can slow it down that way. It is okay to give him this, I have had to give it to my male dachshund in the past when he has been sick. Just disguise it in a small peice of cheese and he shoud inhale it without ever knowing that he has taken a pill.
Another thing you might try is to change his food. If he is eating primarily canned food, then change him to a dry food. Canned food tends to give some dogs loose stools. Also, those "moist" dry foods in the individual packs can cause loose stools as well. Another thing, does he get table scraps? If so, then as hard as it will be on you and him, try to stop it. Could he be getting into garbage somewhere, or maybe a neighbor may be giving him "snacks" of table scraps. When I was growing up, we had a dog that the neighbor loved as dearly as we did. She fed Katie scraps of fatty meat, which spelled out loose stool city for her. As much as we tried to get her to stop, the neighbor would not stop feeding her scraps. So, Katie had loose stools quite a bit.

krazy4birds had a very good bit of advice in speaking with the vet about making payments. I have had lost of experience with this. I mentioned that male dachshund had been sick, but failed to tell you that he has been sick for nearly three years now. He has some sort of an immune disorder and has been hospitalized and has had lots of tests done to try to pin point what has been going on. The vet is very good about letting me make payments. So, from someone with experience in this, take my word, that a GOOD vet will let you make payments.

I do hope that I have helped a little bit. I feel sure that you will get other responses from other, more knowlegeable members, that can, and will help you all that they can.

Take care, and keep us updated!
