Dead Fish!!!

Hi, I just bought a one (1) gallon fish aqaurium for my room. I have or well had four baby goldfishes but now there are all dead and I dont know why. Can someone please help me.

Im not a fish expert... but this is what I've learned with having my aquarium for quite a few years. When starting a new aquarium, the water needs to be conditioned before putting fish in... it needs to have the right PH balance, algea and such. Some let the water sit for two weeks before adding fish... others will add feeder goldfish to speed up the conditioning, the goldfish usually die. You can also "borrow" water from an established fish aquarium.. adding new water to it and let it sit for awhile. When cleaning fish aquariums, do not take all the water out... you can take out 2/3 of the old water and add new water with water conditioner to take out the chlorine. You can take samples of the water to most pet stores and have it tested to see if its ok... if its not, they should be able to tell you how to fix it. Fish cannot live in crystal clean water.. they need the algea and gook to survive. Its ok to vacuum the gravel, but leave some of the old water in. Good luck and Im sorry you lost your babies :( .

I'm sorry you lost your fish. You may have had too many fish for a one gallon aquarium. The general rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon of water.

yes i agreed that there are too many fish in one gallon AND goldfish should not be kept in bowls if you have four you would need uhhh...more than one gallon for one goldfish alone because GOLDFISH DO GROW. I know people label bowls as "goldfish" bowls but they are wrong....you could end up with deformaties if your fishes had lived to their adult size. Goldfish are very messy fish and if kept in a gallon bowl you would have needed to clean it everyday or even every half a day.....please i'm asking you not to put goldfish in bowls. If you are looking for a fish to put in a bowl then ONE betta male (aka siamese fighting fish - bettas splenden) alone will be adequate in a one gallon bowl with weekly water changes, with a nice plant and a nice ground cover even marbles can be used.

ok, goldfish are pond fish, needing 75 gallons PER FISH, a 1 gallon han only hold a betta, or some livebering fry for a short while, and that isnt even recomended, im sorry for your loss, but if u want some sort of goldfish, get a 20 gallon and stock it with rosy reds;) or try 3 plattys and breed them, or guppys, all great fish, easy to breed, and fun to care for, and most of all very exciting to watch ans see what babys u created, very satisfying!
